AMD Phenom II X6 clocks leaked
Just over a month from now AMD will introduce its own desktop-oriented hexa-core processors (codename) Thuban, the first release wave being set to include four chips - the Phenom II X6 1035T, 1055T (in 95W and 125W TDP versions), and the 1075T. The upcoming CPUs have been pretty much confirmed to have 9MB of L3 cache and an integrated DDR3 memory controller, and to be manufactured on 45nm technology but their frequencies have not been revealed, until today.
Courtesy of a couple BIOS updates released by Gigabyte (and leaked CPU support lists), we now know that the X6 1035T will have its six cores set to 2600 MHz / 2.6 GHz, while the X6 1055T will be set @ 2800 MHz / 2.8 GHz. Expanding on the info available it's clear that the highest-end hexa-core prepped by AMD for next month, the Phenom II X6 1075T will be clocked at 3.0 GHz, 333 MHz under Intel's own Core i7 980X EE. Don't expect AMD's chips to take on Intel's EE models but they should give the LGA 1156 Core i7s a run for their money. Now all we need is the prices...

Microsoft ordered to pay $106 million in VirnetX patent case
Windows Phone 7 Series maker and promoter, Microsoft has been slapped by a federal jury in Texas with a ruling stating that it has to pay Scotts Valley-based VirnetX $105,750,000 in damages for infringing two of the latter company's patents (Patent No. 6,502,135 B1, entitled "Agile Network Protocol for Secure Communications with Assured System Availability" and Patent No. 7,188,180 B2, named "Method for Establishing Secure Communication Link Between Computers of Virtual Private Network"). Since the jury ruled that Microsoft willfully violated the mentioned patents, the damages awarded could triple but that's up to the judge.
"We are extremely pleased with the Jury's decision," said Kendall Larsen, VirnetX President and CEO. "Receiving a nine figure award is tremendous and verifies our belief that our patents are foundational and important."
Microsoft contested the decision and announced that it will appeal because it believes the patents are invalid and there is no clear evidence of infringement. No surprise here, let the rumble continue.

ExoPC Slate delayed, to receive tweaks
Canadian company ExoPC has pushed back the release of its slate PC toward summertime, but promises to deliver an even better product that the one designed so far. The portable device is currently listed as featuring a 1.6 GHz Atom N270 CPU, but according to its makers, that will be swapped for something better (Pine Trail anyone?) which will also enable an extended battery life (4+ hours).
When it does come out, the ExoPC is set to have a thinner profile (under the current 2.1 cm), a better touch panel (which will still be of 8.9 inches), and that should go great with the pre-loaded Windows 7. The slate is also planned to get its own store for applications and media content so this one is worth keeping an eye on. And yes, it can 'do' Flash too.
