
Shuttle's X50V2 All-in-One barebone starts shipping
Showcased at CES 2010, the X50V2 All-in-One Barebone from Shuttle is currently finding its way into shops, bragging with its Pine Trail insides. The new desktop 'skeleton' measures 391.3 (W) x 327 (H) x 36 (L) mm and weights 3.6kg, has a 15.6-inch (1366x768) LED-backlit touchscreen, a 1.66 GHz Atom D510 dual-core CPU, GMA 3150 integrated graphics, two DDR2 slots for up to 4GB of RAM, and support for one 2.5-inch HDD or SSD.
The fanless system also boasts a 4-in-1 card reader, 10/100 LAN, 802.11 b/g and draft-n WiFi, two 2W speakers, a 1.3 megapixel webcam and a D-Sub output.
The X50V2 Barebone is set to cost 353 Euro without VAT.

CyberPower adds Gulftown power to its Intel gaming rigs
CyberPower has jumped aboard the Gulftown Express and announced that the new Core i7 980X EE processor has been added to its uber-end gaming systems and will be available, optionally, on all its X58-based PCs in the near future.
The i7 980X features six cores running at 3.33 GHz but CyperPower enables customers to get the CPU overclocked by up to 30% via the optional Venom Boost technology. Lexar rolls out Crucial-branded DDR3L-1333 memory for Xeon servers
Lexar Media is showing its support for Intel's new Xeon 5600 processors by releasing a full line of DDR3L (L for Low voLtage) memory. The hexa-core-ready RAM prepped by Lexar includes 1, 2 and 4GB RDIMMs and VLP (very low profile) RDIMMs that reach 1333 MHz with CL9 latencies operating at 1.35V.
"The benefits of energy-efficient DDR3L memory are clear – most notably the significant reduction in memory sub-system energy consumption and overall system cooling demands. Western Digital rolls out the My Passport SE for Mac HDDs
Catering to the portable storage needs of Mac owners everywhere, Western Digital has let loose the new My Passport SE hard drives boasting 750GB and 1TB of Apple-friendly space. Alex e-reader going up for pre-order today
After clocking in almost a month of delay Spring Design's Alex eboox reader is today ready to become available for pre-order in the US. Seen below, Alex is under half an inch thick and weights 312 grams, has a 6-inch electronic paper display for displaying text and a 3.5-inch color touchscreen for navigation and web browsing, it runs Android, and supports ebooks in EPUB, PDF, HTML and TXT formats.
The new device also packs a microSD card slot, WiFi and USB connectivity (a model with 3G is coming later on), built-in speakers, and has access to over 1 million Google Books.
"By combining a full multimedia browser with the efficiency and flexibility of an EPD screen supported by our open Android-based Alex eReader, we have truly placed a powerful tool in the hands of authors, publishers, professors, and institutions to create interesting interactive eBooks," said Dr. Priscilla Lu, CEO of Spring Design. 1TB Mercury On-The-Go Pro drives adopt 'Advanced Format'
Other World Computing has this week re-released its 1TB Mercury On-The-Go Pro portable hard drives which initially debuted back in October (2009). Why the need for a re-introduction we hear someone in the back asking. Simple (if you do a little search and don't copy/paste), because the 2010 version 1TB HDDs include Western Digital's new Scorpio Blue 2.5-inch drives featuring the 'Advanced Format' technology (meaning they have 4096-byte and not 512-byte sectors).
The updated 1TB Mercury On-The-Go Pro models weights 1.1kg, have a working speed of 5200 RPM, 8MB of cache, a MTBF of 1.2 million hours, and are backed by a three-year warranty. Those interested can find them here in three versions:

Sony Europe has today introduced the VAIO M, a Pine Trail-based netbook for "web browsing, chatting with friends online or checking emails over a coffee." This new portable machine measures 182.8 (D) x 32.9 (H) x 268 (W) mm, weights 1.4kg, and packs a 10.1-inch (1024x600) LED backlit display, 1.66 GHz Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, GMA 3150 graphics, 10/100 LAN, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, a Motion Eye webcam and a 6-cell battery.
The VAIO M is pre-loaded with Windows 7 Starter and will be available this month in black or white for about £299 / $450.

Samsung to get serious about tablets in 2H
Samsung's UMPC (ultra-mobile PC) push was basically shot down right from the start but the South Korean company is more than ready to get back on the horse with its upcoming tablet. The yet unnamed device is planned to debut in the second half of this year and will battle Apple's iPad as well as multiple Tegra 2-powered products that are currently in the works.
Samsung's consumer-oriented tablet/slate is expected to deliver good processing power and connectivity and could be based on an Intel platform. Whatever the chip it will use, ARM-based or Atom, the slate will hopefully be more successful than the Q1 line.

Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 go final for consumers
Phone web surfing fans rejoice as Opera Software has today made Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 available in their final form. The two O-shaped browsing butterflies feature support for touchscreen navigation, Speed Dial, tabs, a new password manager, the Opera Turbo server-side compression technology, and the Opera Link function that lets you synchronize personal browser settings with your Opera desktop browser, as well as other connected devices.
"Keeping in mind the needs and wants of our 50+ million users, we have emphasized speed, desktop-like functionality and data savings in our mobile browsers. Today, we have made it even easier for everyone to surf, search and socialize on the Web," said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software.

Silverlight 4 Release Candidate is up for grabs
At MIX10 in Las Vegas, Microsoft took the stage to claim that its wannabe Flash rival, Silverlight, has already been installed on 60% of all internet devices (up from 45% in November), and announced the availability of the RC (Release Candidate) version of Silverlight 4.
Silverlight 4 promises nothing but big things including extended out-of-browser capabilities, full support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and Google's Chrome browser, new webcam and microphone features, native multicast support, multi-touch, content protection via Silverlight DRM, and performance enhancements that are supposed to make Silverlight 4 applications start quicker and run 200% faster than the equivalent Silverlight 3 app.
The Silverlight 4 RC can now be downloaded here, the full and final version being set for an April introduction.
