Dual Screen Entourage Set For March Launch
Much of the e-reader chatter of late has focused around the Kindle and how it will compare to the iPad, but there'll soon be another hat in the ring. Last October we discussed the Entourage Edge and its nifty dual-screen design; we now know that the tablet-sized e-reader/netbook (Entourage is calling it a Dualbook) will retail for $490. That's quite a bit more than the basic Kindle, which now retails for $259, but it's a match for the $489 Kindle DX. Instead of trying to beat Amazon at its own game, Entourage

AMD's Six-Core Thubans Reportedly Launching In April
If current rumors are to be believed, AMD's hexa-core Thuban processors are headed for desktops in the near future. First we'll see the new 890GX chipsets launching in March, with three Thuban models following on April 26. The new desktop processors will reportedly come in three flavors: Phenom II X6 1035T, 1055T, and the 1075T. We've got no idea what the numbers are supposed to represent in this case; drop a comment below if you've got a theory. Thuban, like Phenom II, will be backwards-compatible and can drop

MSI 890GXM-G65 HTPC Motherboard Brings AMD, USB 3.0 And SATA 6GB/sec Support
If there were ever an underserved market in the PC industry, it's the HTPC niche. We understand that this market is exceptionally tiny when compared to the desktop or notebook landscape, but it's still one that is becoming all the more important with the shift in content distribution from conventional Pay-TV providers to Internet delivery and OTA broadcasts. One could easily replace their existing cable subscription with a fully-equipped HTPC, and if you toss in a Netflix account, you'd really be set.MSI has

Steve Jobs Still Using iPhone OS 3.1.2; Surely Not Jailbroken?
Since the iPhone OS 3.1.3 update came out, the word has spread far and wide among jailbreakers: don't upgrade! There's no reason to do so, as no new features were added, and a "safe" effective jailbreak couldn't be guaranteed. It is interesting, therefore, to see that Steve Jobs hasn't upgraded his iPhone to 3.1.3, either. 9to5Mac, while confirming the validity of an email from Jobs to a reader, took at detailed looked at the email header. What they saw was (above) that in the X-Mailer section it said: iPhone

AMD's Six-Core Thubans Reportedly Launching In April

The other bit of news on Thuban is that AMD will introduce a Turbo Boost-like technology that overclocks certain cores to improve performance while shutting down unnecessary cores to reduce power consumption. We don't know yet exactly how the feature will work (or what performance levels it will allow Thuban to reach), but with six cores on a 45nm process it's safe to bet that turning a few of them off gives the company a significant reservoir of power to work with.
We expect AMD to price Thuban aggressively against quad-core Core i7/Core i5 processors. While the typical real-world benefits of having six cores are debatable to say the least, the fact that AMD has six physical cores competing against the quad-core Nehalem w/Hyper Threading should work to Sunnyvale's advantage. Whether or not it'll be enough to overcome the performance-per-clock disparity between Intel and AMD, however, remains to be seen. At present, AMD's Istanbul server Opterons top out at 2.8GHz with a TDP of 105W. The new enthusiast/desktop processors will probably follow a similar pattern; we're betting on a 2.4GHz-2.8GHz spread with all six cores enabled. Factor in AMD's Turbo Boost (whatever they end up calling it) and we might see top-end speeds at 3.2-3.4GHz depending on yields. Those of you who want low power and parallel processing will have to wait a bit, but you'll probably get a cookie. AMD already has a hexa-core 40W chip at 1.8GHz; odds are reasonable that we'll see an ultra-low-power desktop equivalent before the summer is out.

MSI 890GXM-G65 HTPC Motherboard Brings AMD, USB 3.0 And SATA 6GB/sec Support

MSI has today revealed their newest HTPC-centric motherboard, and contrary to what you may expect, it actually supports AMD processors. The new 890GXM-G65 utilizes the AMD 890GX chipset and supports AMD Phenom II CPUs. It also handles DirectX 10.1 and UVD 2.0 multimedia standards, and it also has native support for the new SATA 6Gb/sec transfer interface as well as USB 3.0. Both of those protocols are hard to find these days, so seeing this support blossom on a niche mainboard just makes us grin from ear to ear.

As with many of MSI's desktop motherboards, this one is also equipped with the OC Genie, albeit a "Lite" version. This enables users to easily overclock their system in the BIOS, providing up to a 15% boost in performance by adjusting the CPU and IGP clock speeds. Movie lovers will enjoy the ATI Radeon HD 4290 graphics set as well as the DVI and HDMI ports; there's also support for full 7.1 surround sound, which really rounds out an already excellent HTPC option. So, is it time for movie night, or what?

HP Reveals Two New EliteBook, Four New ProBook Laptops

Starting first is the HP EliteBook 2740p, described as an ultra-thin, multitouch-enabled convertible tablet that provides an interactive experience for businesses in health care, education, sales and more. HP designed this unit to have the reliability of an HP business notebook PC with the flexibility of a tablet, and considering that no one really knows how well tablets will take off this year, we suspect this is a pretty smart move. It starts at 3.8lbs. and has a 12.1" LCD display, but those who know they'll be using it outside a lot can opt for an outdoor-view panel with "less reflection and a higher contrast for easier viewing in natural light." As you might expect, the screen is a touch panel, and multi-touch gestures are supported. HP also gives you the choice of a six-cell li-ion prismatic battery, which provides up to 5 hours of uptime, and an optional HP 2700 Ultra-Slim Battery that provides up to 11 hours when combined with the standard battery.

Another new member of the group is the EliteBook 2540p, which is said to be the lineup's lightest member. Boasting a 12.1" LED display, a 2MP webcam, a business card reader, fingerprint sensor and an integrated WWAN (mobile broadband) card by Gobi, this on-the-go machine can last up to 10.5 hours with the extended nine-cell battery.
Finally, there's the ProBook series, which is seeing four new options unveiled today: HP ProBook 4320s (13.3-inch diagonal), HP ProBook 4420s (14-inch diagonal), HP ProBook 4520s (15.6-inch diagonal) and HP ProBook 4720s (17.3-inch diagonal). All of the machines have LED-backlit panels, with the lowest-end one starting at $719 and the whole group giving users the choice of Intel's Core i3, i5 or i7 processors. Users can also select integrated graphics or more powerful options from ATI's Mobility Radeon line. There's also "multiple wireless technologies" built in, and the ArcSoft TotalMedia Suite gives users lots of multimedia tweaking abilities from the beginning.
- The HP EliteBook 2540p starts at $1,099 and is expected to be available in the United States next month.
- The HP EliteBook 2740p starts at $1,599 and is expected to be available in the United States next month.
- The HP ProBook s-series starts at $719 and are expected to be available in the United States this month.
- The HP 2740 Ultra-Slim Expansion Base starts at $299 and is expected to be available in the United States next month.

What they saw was (above) that in the X-Mailer section it said: iPhone Mail (7D11) which means he's on 3.1.2.

There could be many reasons that Jobs is on 3.1.2. It's quite possible that Jobs simply can't be bothered with syncing his own device and relies on his admin to do it. Surely it's not because he's using any of the numerous useful apps available only on jailbroken devices, right (such as Intelliscreen, shown above, which shows information on your lock screen)?
In the past Apple has said that jailbreaking devices is illegal. In 2009, as part of the 2009 DMCA triennial rulemaking process, Apple filed comments (.PDF) with the U.S. Copyright Office as part of the 2009 DMCA triennial rulemaking, claiming that jailbreaking an iPhone constitutes copyright infringement and a DMCA violation.
