Intel jumps the gun on Atom N470 announcement
Intel seems to have forgotten about its own schedule as it has announced the introduction of the Atom N470 processor today instead of on March 1st, as (apparently) planned. Of course, the N470 is no secret at all but the situation is still a bit funny.

Big brother to the N450, the Atom N470 is a 45nm single-core chip clocked at 1.83 GHz with GMA 3150 integrated graphics, 512k of L2 cache and support for DDR2-667 memory. The N470, which is part of the Pine Trail platform, offers a bit more power to your 'average' netbook so expect multiple OEMs to come up with machines powered by it in the coming months.

Lenovo has previously announced the IdeaPad S10-3t convertible tablet as featuring the Atom N470 and even listed it on its web store but the model is now gone, probably preparing to return next week.

HIS coming up with IceQ series Radeon HD 5770 cards
Three months have passed since HIS introduced its Radeon HD 5750 IceQ+ cards and now the company is preparing to roll out a couple of IceQ-ed Radeon HD 5770s too. Known as the HD 5770 IceQ 5 and HD 5770 IceQ 5 Turbo, the upcoming Juniper-powered cards have 800 Stream Processors, a 128-bit memory interface and 1GB of GDDR5 VRAM, DirectX 11 and CrossFireX support, dual-DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort outputs, and make use of a dual-slot UV sensitive cooler boasting three copper heatpipes that's supposed to be both more efficient and quieter than the reference solution.

HIS' Radeon HD 5770 IceQ 5 has stock clocks (850/4800 MHz GPU/memory) and is listed for pre-order in Europe @ $245 / 180 Euro, while the HD 5770 IceQ 5 Turbo tops 875/5000 MHz and can be found @ $279 / 205 Euro. Both cards should be shipping next month.

Asus officially unveils its custom Radeon HD 5000 line-up
Rumored and partially exposed, Asus' family of custom-cooled Radeon HD 5000 series cards has now finally been presented in an orderly fashion. Starting off small, we have the EAH5770 CUcore/2DI/1GD5 which makes use of a special cooling system featuring a tuning-fork shaped heatsink with a copper rod weighing up to 5.8oz embedded to help speed up heat transfer. A low-noise fan is also included, as this is an actively-cooled solution.

In terms of specs, the EAH5770 CUcore is pretty 'stock', with a 850 MHz core clock, 1GB of GDDR5 memory @ 4800 MHz, 800 Stream Processors, DirectX 11 and CrossFireX support, plus D-Sub, DVI and HDMI outputs.

Moving up the price latter we find the EAH5830 DirectCU/2DIS/1GD5 which comes equipped with the DirectCU fansink (also used for the custom HD 5850 models). DirectCU boasts two 8mm copper heatpipes that have direct contact with the GPU, an aluminum fin heatsink, and a fan that is 35% quieter than the one found on reference cards.

The EAH5830 DirectCU includes 1120 Stream Processors, a 256-bit memory interface, 1GB of GDDR5 VRAM, GPU/memory clocks of 800/4000 MHz, CrossFireX support, of course DX11 too, and DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort connectivity.

Next up, the EAH5850 DirectCU TOP and non-TOP models have 1440 Stream Processors, 1GB GDDR5 memory, DX11 and CrossFireX, the custom cooling solution described above, and DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. Clock-wise, the non-TOP version comes with 725/4000 MHz for the GPU/memory, while the TOP card reaches out to 765/4500 MHz.

Last and certainly not least, the EAH5870 TOP and non-TOP cards also have a custom cooling solution but it's less 'spectacular' than the CuCore and DirectCU. Still, it gets the job done which means it can handle a 10.5-inch Radeon HD 5870 with 1600 Stream Processors, a 256-bit interface, 1GB of memory, and a passion for beating the green out of GeForce cards. The 'regular' EAH5870 and the EAH5870 TOP boast DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs and have their GPU/memory clocked at 850/4800 MHz and 900/4900 MHz, respectively.

You can already start looking for Asus' new Radeons at your local IT store.
