Siemens to slash 2,000 jobs in Germany
Siemens AG has recently revealed plans to lower the workforce of its Drive Technologies and Industry Solutions divisions by almost 2,000 people by the end of 2012. All cuts are set to affect German employees and are attributed to slow demand for low-power low-voltage motors, and a weakness in the service and modernization businesses.

Siemens' intent is to lay off 840 people at the Drive Technologies' Bad Neustadt an der Saale site, 300 at the Erlangen location, and 850 from various Industry Solutions locations in Germany.

The German company said that it will try to minimize the impact of the reductions through multiple measures, including voluntary termination of employment contracts, the expiration of limited-term contracts, the reduction of temporary contracts, the exchange of personnel between locations and reduced working hours.
