Corel plans 20% workforce reduction
2010 is starting on a really low note for Paint Shop Pro maker Corel who announced that it will be cutting 20% of its global workforce, the reason given for this unfortunate move being the need to align the company's cost structure with its FY2010 operating plan and to have extra resources for product development.
"For 25 years, Corel has demonstrated an ability to adapt and evolve in order to meet new consumer demands and an ever changing competitive landscape," said Kris Hagerman, Corel CEO. "In building our operating plan for 2010, we are aligning our cost structure so that we have the financial flexibility to continue to innovate and deliver new products to the market, drive broad awareness of our products and global brand, and ensure we are making the best use of our global teams and resources."
The last cuts at Corel were done in spring 2009 when 80 employees were laid off due to cost reduction needs. Other measures to lower expenses were taken throughout 2009 but it seems those couldn't save enough money.

Nvidia GF100 3-way SLI setup rokin' a tech demo at CES
Nvidia still isn't talking much about the GF100 (at least it's confirmed as being in production) but at CES 2010 you can see a few such cards live in various configurations. First, you have the single GF100 wrestling with the DX11 Heaven benchmark, and, better yet, you have three GF100 powering the Nvidia-developed Rocket Sled demo.
The 3-way SLI setup is watercooled and is housed in a Maingear Shift rig that also boasts an EVGA X58 board and a Core i7 processor. The GF100 isn't as connectivity-rich as the Radeon HD 5800 series cards but boasts dual DVI and HDMI, which will be enough for three monitors and the 3D Vision Surround experience.
The GF100 is scheduled for a Q1 2010 release so expect more info in the weeks to come.
