Google intros URL-shortening service, Goo.gl
Hot on the heels of Facebook's URL-shortening service FB.me, Google has introduced its own link trimmer. Dubbed Goo.gl, Google's shortener is not available through a standalone site, as with similar services like TinyURL and Bit.ly. Instead, the search giant has incorporated Goo.gl into the Google Toolbar and FeedBurner.

Sony still taking financial hit on every PS3 sold
Everyone knows that the money for console manufacturers is in games and accessories, not the console itself. Still, it is surprising to learn that Sony is still losing cash every time a PS3 is sold, despite the rig going through numerous hardware refreshes and cost cuttings. A modern PS3 costs about $336 to manufacture and is sold at $299, losing at least $37 with each sale.

Evidence of a major iPhone OS update surfaced yesterday as the folks at Boy Genius Report discovered traces of iPhone OS 4.0 in their server logs. This pairs nicely with the recent rumors of Apple's fourth-generation iPhone, which is supposedly in or entering production and could appear as early as mid-2010.

Unsurprisingly, MSI is also developing P55 motherboards with next-generation SATA and USB connectivity. Images of MSI's unannounced P55-GD85 have surfaced on the Coolaler forums, and it looks similar to upcoming products from Asus and Gigabyte.

Intel's 6-core Gulftown to debut as Core i7 980X
PC online has leaked an Intel published slide showing what appears to be the official branding for its upcoming six-core Gulftown processor. Long rumored to be released with the Core i9 identifier, the 32nm Westmere based chip will reportedly debut as the Core i7 980X instead, featuring 3.3GHz clock speeds and a whopping 12MB of L3 cache.

Seagate unveils world's thinnest 2.5-inch notebook drive
Seagate apparently went ahead of its planned CES announcement and today officially unveiled the world's thinnest 2.5-inch hard disk drive. Measuring just 7mm tall rather than the usual 9.5mm, the Momentus Thin drive is aimed at the increasingly popular ultra-thin notebooks and will come in 160GB and 250GB capacities.
