GPU Caps Viewer 1.8.0 debuts with OpenCL support
JeGX has worked, toiled into the night and managed to deliver a new update for GPU Caps Viewer just before the holidays. This latest release, known as version 1.8.0 features the following:

- New: added four OpenCL GPU / CPU demos. These demos use an OpenGL 3.1 or 3.2 code path.
- New: added two OpenGL 3 demos.
- New: added OpenCL panel for OpenCL capable devices.
- New: for Radeon, display of core and memory frequencies (idle / UVD / 3D).
- New: added GPU Computing checkboxes.
- New: reorganization of the first panel to display essential information.

Google ordered to pay 300,000 Euro in book scanning case
Google isn't entering the weekend all that well as the Paris Civil Court has today ruled that it has indeed violated copyrights with its book digitizing project. The search giant, which has scanned millions of book in order to make them accessible online, has been sued by a major French publisher and authors groups for digitizing some 4,000 books without the approval of copyright holders.

The Paris court's decision states that Google has to pay 300,000 Euro ($430,000) in damages for its infringement and orders the company to halt the scanning of French books or face a 10,000 Euro daily fine. Google can appeal the decision but it hasn't said anything about the possibility of doing so.

Earlier this week French President Nicolas Sarkozy revealed that the EU country's government aims to spend 750 million Euro to digitize national libraries, film and music archives, thus rivaling Google.
