Facebook gets a new privacy policy
After going through the views of a rather small number of users who commented on its new, proposed privacy policy, social network Facebook has decided to go ahead and adopt the document which is supposed to be more open, transparent and easier to understand.
"In the coming weeks and months, we plan to build on the progress we've already made in making the document more accessible by also adding definitions of key terms, screen shots of important pages and informational "learn more" videos. We think these visual resources will make it even easier to understand how privacy works on Facebook," said Michael Richter on the Facebook blog.
According to Richter, most users like that the proposed document lacked the more complicated technical and legal terms and its structure which offers key points at the beginning and links to quickly access different sections.
The new privacy policy is going to be posted in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish.

Although Nokia is still the most enthusiastic supported of Symbian, the Finnish company will continue to adopt Maemo platform in the years to come, to some point, in detriment of Symbian. As revealed by Maemo's marketing team, Nokia is planning on moving its N-series handset line-up away from Symbian and have it use only Maemo-based platforms by 2012.
The shift to Maemo is hoped to induce new life in Nokia's high-end smartphones which, while still selling well, are losing more and more ground to Apple's iPhone, RIM's BlackBerry models and other rival devices. Good luck with all that, Nokia.

Nvidia Fermi-powered GeForce card pictured
Already presented powering Tesla products, Nvidia's 40nm Fermi chip will first become available within the next generation of GeForce discrete graphics cards. Now, Nvidia hasn't talked much about them but at least it finally provided a glimpse at a Fermi-based GeForce card.
Seen below, the sample board is covered by a dual-slot, single-fan cooler, has 3-way SLI support, at least one DVI output and requires extra power via an 8- and a 6-pin PCIe connector. The looong Fermi/GF100-based GeForce is running Unigine's Heaven DirectX 11 benchmark to show off its capabilities but unfortunately results aren't available. Still, given the included 512 CUDA cores, the card should have no problems with running the DX11 test quite smooth.
If all goes well we should see the first Fermi-powered GeForce models released in Q1.

Google Search results now show site hierarchies
While still working on the Caffeine update, Google has made a new tweak to its well-known search service, one that displays how a search result page fits into a site's hierarchy. As seen below, the new results display method replaces the green URL with a hierarchy that shows the location of a page within a website. This approach enables users to have a better idea of the relevance of a result for their search query.
"For example, consider a search for the biography of Vint Cerf (Google's Internet Evangelist). The URL for one result, "www.google.com/corporate/execs.html," shows that the page is located in a page about "execs," under "corporate," which is on the "google.com" site. This can provide valuable context when deciding whether to click on the result," explain Harvey Jones and Daniel Rocha on Google's blog.
The site hierarchy update is being rolled out as we speak and should become available to everyone within days.
