Microsoft delivers fixes for 15 vulnerabilities
November's Patch Tuesday is behind us now but it's worth noting that it brought to the table no less than six updates to fix 15 problems. Four patches tackle vulnerabilities found in Windows and Windows Server, while the other two go after Office bugs.
Three critical-rated updates address remote code execution issues within the Web Services on Devices Application Programming Interface in Windows OSes, the Windows kernel and the License Logging Server in Windows 2000 SP4. The lonely 'important' patch for Windows targets a vulnerability in Active Directory directory service, Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM), and Active Directory Lightweight Directory Service (AD LDS).
As for the Office-aimed fixes, they address remote code execution problems in Excel and Word.
This week's batch of updates, which has nothing for Windows 7, is detailed here.

Ericsson to close down its R&D center in Coventry
Telecommunications equipment manufacturer Ericsson has decided that, as part of the ongoing global cost reduction plan, it will have to shut down the research and development and global service delivery activities based in Coventry, the UK. This move, which is expected to be finalized by mid-2010, will see 700 people loosing their jobs after just a few months of employment as the Coventry site opened up in May this year.
"These proposals represent sad news we have for our employees in Ansty Park, Coventry, today," says Mats Granryd, Head of Market Unit North Western Europe at Ericsson. "We have to work continuously to increase efficiency and lower our cost base whilst ensuring we deliver solutions designed to meet our global customers' needs."
In spite of Ericsson's cost-cutting needs, the Unite union said it won't just sit and wait for the pink slips to be sent, and plans to combat the company's plans.
