MSI unveils Windows 7 all-in-one PCs
Micro-Star International (MSI) has unveiled three all-in-one PCs that are ready to support Windows 7. The 21.5-inch Wind Top AE2220 will be launched later in October, followed by the 20-inch AE2020 and the 21.5-inch AE2220 Hi-Fi in November.
The three all-in-one PCs are supported by Nvidia's Ion platform, of which, the AE2220 supports Full HD image output, as well as VGA and HDMI ports for input connectivity for video game consoles or other entertainment devices, MSI noted. The AE2220 will be priced at about NT$35,000 (US$1,086), MSI added.

SMIC Extends 45nm Offerings to 40nm and 55nm
Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) today announced that it will extend its 45-nanometer bulk complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technologies to 40nm and 55nm geometries. These new processes will complement SMIC's existing offerings to better support customer demand worldwide, including in the fast-growing China market. Applications include multimedia products, graphics chips, chipsets, and mobile devices such as handsets integrated with 3G/4G.

"Our 45nm technology has been implemented at SMIC's 300mm facility in Shanghai ahead of schedule and we look forward to a similar result at these additional geometries," said SMIC's President and CEO, Dr. Richard Chang. "These new offerings provide our current and new customers a customized set of solutions to meet their diverse product design-in needs."

Intel Reports Strong Third-Quarter 2009 Results
Intel Corporation today reported third-quarter revenue of $9.4 billion. The company reported operating income of $2.6 billion, net income of $1.9 billion and earnings per share (EPS) of 33 cents.
"Intel's strong third-quarter results underscore that computing is essential to people's lives, proving the importance of technology innovation in leading an economic recovery," said Paul Otellini, Intel president and CEO. "This momentum in the current economic climate, plus our product leadership, gives us confidence about our business prospects going forward. Openmoko announced today the availability of WikiReader, a palm-sized electronic encyclopedia containing the more than three million English language articles of Wikipedia that can be accessed immediately anytime, anywhere without requiring an Internet connection.
