Rambus and Kingston working on threaded memory technology
Memory manufacturer Kingston and lawyer-friendly memory IP company Rambus today revealed that they have teamed up to develop a threaded memory technology to address the need for more bandwidth and higher rates of random access from DRAM memory.

The threaded approach is claimed to provide higher power efficiency by partitioning modules into multiple independent channels that share a common command/address port. Threaded modules can support 64-byte memory transfers at full bus utilization, resulting in efficiency gains of up to 50% when compared to current DDR3 memory modules. According to the two partners, the tests done so far with DDR3 DRAM show not 'only' a 50% rise in data throughput, but also a 20% drop in power consumption compared to 'regular' DDR3 modules.

"As multi-core computing becomes pervasive, DRAM memory subsystems will be severely challenged to deliver the data throughput required," said Craig Hampel, Rambus Fellow. "Our innovative module threading technology employs parallelism to deliver the higher memory bandwidth needed for multi-core systems while reducing overall power consumption."

Rambus is promising to showcase prototype threaded memory at IDF 2009 next week.

Seen below, the wired little rodent has a laser sensor with a resolution of 5040 CPI (counts per inch), seven buttons (five of which are programmable), a braided 2-meter cable and a gold-plated USB connector, and is backed by a two-year warranty.

"We have been planning to make a mouse for several years now. Until now the optical and laser technology hasn't lived up to QPAD standards. With this mouse we are setting a new standard for gaming mice," said QPAD founder, Christer Kأƒآ¶rnbأƒآ¤ck. "Just as with our headset this is a product which fits right into the premium segment of the market. I really enjoy playing with the QPAD 5K, it works with the extreme high speed movments that used to be a huge problem for laser mice. QPAD 5K delivers a micro precision never seen before, and our 5 finger ergonomic shape is fantastic. The design of the mouse is shaped to fit a 5 finger grip and by doing this we make sure that you have as little friction as possible."

The 5K is expected to start shipping on October 20th priced at 60 Euro (without VAT).
