MSI Intros NF750-G50 SLI AM3 Motherboard
MSI is ready with perhaps the industry's first SLI-supportive socket AM3 motherboard, certainly its first. The MSI NF750-G55 is based on NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI chipset, and has its AM3 socket powered by a 4+1 phase circuit, that supports Active Phase Switching that powers down redundant power phases when the load is low. The socket is wired to four DDR3 memory slots supporting up to DDR3-1800 by overclocking.
The nForce chipset connects to two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots that arrange as electrical dual x8 when both are populated for 2-way SLI. Apart from this, the chipset also embeds a GeForce 8300 class IGP as a fallback, or for GeForce Boost features. The IGP connects using D-Sub, HDMI, and DVI-D. Other expansion slots include two PCI-E x1, and one PCI. The chipset provides six SATA II ports in all, one of which is designated as eSATA on the rear-panel, next to one gigabit Ethernet, a number of USB 2.0 and FireWire ports, and 8-channel audio. The NF750-G50 has started selling in Europe for under 100 Euros.

Windows 7 EU-Specific Variant Scrapped
Following the European Commission's recent welcoming of Microsoft's proposed "browser ballot" method of providing users a choice of web-browser software to be installed, Microsoft has decided to scrap the Eurozone-specific variant of the operating system codenamed "Windows 7 E", that lacks the Windows Internet Explorer web-browser component. The company will be shipping the standard version of the software to EU which it ships to the rest of the world.
In an interview with CNET, Microsoft's VP and Deputy General Counsel Dave Heiner said "One reason we decided not to ship Windows 7 'E' is concerns raised by computer manufacturers and partners." He added that "Several worried about the complexity of changing the version of Windows that we ship in Europe if our ballot screen proposal is ultimately accepted by the Commission and we stop selling Windows 7 'E'. Computer manufacturers and our partners also warned that introducing Windows 7 'E', only to later replace it with a version of Windows 7 that includes IE, could confuse consumers about what version of Windows to buy with their PCs."

Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack Confirmed, Priced
Microsoft's Windows 7 has managed to capture quite some hype, with successive pre-releases living up to the expectations of many. This time, Microsoft will be offering "family-pack" licenses of Windows 7 Home Premium that lets users install one copy on three PCs in a household for a fraction of the cost of buying three licenses. Microsoft confirmed Windows 7 Family Pack, along with its pricing. It is priced at US $149.99, which amounts to savings of $200 in comparison to buying three Windows 7 Home Premium licenses.
This release however, isn't worldwide. Microsoft announced that it will be available on October 22, the day of the commercial launch of the OS. It will be available in the United States, and select markets. The Windows 7 Family Pack first surfaced as a listing on an online store.

AOpen Ships nMCP7AUt-V ION-ITX Motherboard
AOpen is ready with its LGA-775 ION ITX platform. The AOpen nMCP7AUt-V resembles most Atom-ION motherboards, but supports an LGA-775 (up to 95W TDP) Pentium, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad processor with its 2+1 phase power circuit. The ION chipset packs a GeForce 9400M class mGPU. AOpen overclocked this a little, 580/1500 MHz (core/shader, versus 580/1400 MHz reference). The chipset supports GeForce Boost, which allows a low-end discrete GeForce GPU to work in tandem with it, and save power. The chipset is actively cooled by a fan-heatsink. The board holds two SO-DIMM slots for dual-channel DDR2 800/667 MHz memory, commonly available as laptop memory.
The lone expansion slot is a PCI-Express 2.0 x16. Storage is care of three SATA II ports, with RAID 0,1,5, and JBOD modes. The GeForce mGPU connects to its display through DVI-D and HDMI connectors. Audio is care of a high-grade Realtek ALC889 HD audio CODEC. Apart from the 8 USB 2.0 ports on the rear-panel, four more are provided through internal headers. The AOpen nMCP7AUt-V is selling in Japan for 18,770 JPY (US $198).

ASUS Preps 790X-based M4A79XTD EVO Motherboard
AMD's 790X chipset was featured as one of the first in 7-series chipset family. Based on the RX780 chip, this chipset is essentially identical to the AMD 770, except for that it supports the ATI CrossFireX technology. With the introduction of the 790GX, the 790X was less opted for. The chipset made its comeback with motherboards from Gigabyte and MSI that support AM3 processors and DDR3 memory. ASUS is ready with its competitive motherboard based on the AMD 790X + SB750 chipset. The ASUS M4A79XTD-EVO offers some of ASUS' latest innovations.
To begin with, this socket AM3 motherboard supports DDR3 memory. The CPU is powered by an 8+2 phase power circuit, that is controlled by the ASUS EPU active phase switching controller. The brown PCB uses a 2 oz copper to reduce EMI and enhance electrical stability, a technology found in Gigabyte's UltraDurable 3 motherboards. The 790X northbridge connects to two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots (electrical dual x8, when both are populated). Two each of PCI-E x1 and PCI make for the rest of the expansion. The SB750 southbridge supports AMD Overdrive and Advanced Clock Calibration (ACC). Apart from the six SATA II ports it provides, an additional controller gives out one internal port, and an eSATA port. Overclocking is aided by the TurboV feature. VIA VT1708S onboard 8 channel audio, Realtek Gigabit Ethernet make for the rest of the package. ASUS will have this board up in the next few weeks.

ASRock Details its First-Wave P55 Motherboard Lineup

Intel Updates Mainstream, Performance, and Extreme CPU Roadmap
Intel issued a confidential roadmap for CPU product releases that looks as far as Q3 2010, leaked to sections of the Chinese media. The roadmap covers prominent Intel processors in their designated market segments drawn out by Intel, covering three grades of mainstream, one each of performance and extreme. The roadmap marks a definite transition of architectures from Intel's Core (penryn) to next-generation Nehalem, and the advent of Intel's first 32 nm based Westmere CPUs.
To begin with, there three models of Intel's first LGA-1156 processors scheduled for Q3 2009, the quad-core "Lynnfield" based Core i7 870 (2.93 GHz, HTT) in Performance, Core i7 860 (2.80 GHz, HTT) in MS3/upper-mainstream, and Core i5 750 (2.66 GHz, no HTT) in MS2/middle-mainstream. The HTT-enabled Core i7 800 processors were earlier believed to have been scheduled for Q1 2010, but are combined with the Core i5 750 for a grand platform launch. The Core i7 800 models will remain seated in their segments for the better part of 2010.
