Everex closes up its US shop
1983-established PC maker Everex has shut down its US operations and offices, with none of its US sites working, and a big sign on everex.com saying that 'Everex US is now closed.'

Everex, which also has establishments in China and Japan, is known for making low-cost, more or less 'green' PCs, both desktops and laptops, and even netbooks (CloudBook family). Despite having very attractive price tags, Everex's products didn't really make waves in North America so the company has apparently taken a step back, probably forced by the current economic times, to focus on its Asian markets. Don't worry though, Everex is probably not saying goodbye, just so long.

LG Display plans major investment to boost LCD panel production
LG Display's board has today approved a plan to expand the company's large-size LCD panel output through the expansion of its manufacturing facility in Paju, South Korea. The second-largest flat panel supplier expects demand for LCD TVs to continue its growth in the coming years, and since it wants to be ready to take as many 'orders' as possible, it will shell out some $2.56 billion (and the sum doesn't include building costs) to add a new 8G production line to the Paju plant.

Set to produce mostly 32-, 47- and 55-inch LCD panels, the new line will go live in the second half of 2010 with a capacity of around 60,000 glass sheets per month. In 2011, the line will increase its capacity to 120,000/month. That's a lot of slim TVs.

MSI P55-GD80 board gets an updated photoshoot
MSI's high-end P55-GD80 motherboard has previously been seen at Computex but that was in its early form, not in the final, just waiting for the Lynnfield launch, version that we'd like to drool over. Fortunately, the drooling can now commence as one almost final (and working) P55-GD80 has been caught on digital tape, as you can certainly see below.

Powered by the P55 chip, the P55-GD80 has support for LGA 1156 processors and features the APS (Active Phase Switching) energy saving technology, a SuperPipe-equipped cooling system, a sexy black PCB, four DDR3 memory slots, and no less than three PCI-Express x16 slots which will probably welcome both SLI and CrossFireX setups.

The upcoming board also comes with one eSATA and eight SATA ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet, 7.1 channel audio, FireWire, a debug LED, plus three OC buttons and a Clear CMOS button. MSI will apparently also add GreenPower, Reset and Power buttons to the final version but for that we'll have to wait a little longer.

The P55-GD80 will likely arrive in late August or September.

Android, BlackBerry, get their own Google Voice apps
Still only available to GrandCentral users, Google Voice is ready to show some love for smartphone users, with specific applications for both Android and BlackBerry handsets being demonstrated and almost ready for release. Google Voice is a free service providing individuals one number for all their phone needs and that offers them features like call blocking and screening, call conferencing, and low-priced international calls.

Using the Android and BlackBerry apps, people with a Google Voice account can make calls 'under' their unique number, manage contacts, read message transcripts, check their voicemail and much more. Both apps are expected to be available as soon as Google Voice officially launches in the US, and will be followed, sooner or later, by an iPhone app. Can't ignore the iPhone owners.
