Curtain raised on AMD's Phenom II 42 TWKR BE processor
First seen a couple of weeks back, the Phenom II 42 TWKR Black Edition processor has stepped up into the spotlight as the best of the best overclocking part AMD has at this date. Hand-picked and ready to handle some 'high voltage' settings, the TWKR (tweaker) CPUs are not for sale as they are meant to be given out to members of the overclocking community for use and abuse.
Less than 100 Phenom II 42s are being delivered and all of them are 45nm quad-cores clocked at 2.0 GHz that feature and unlocked multiplier and 6MB of shared L3 cache. AMD is expecting the processors to reach higher clocks than the current commercial flagship, the 3.2 GHz Phenom II X4 955 and it's probably just a matter of time before we hear of a TWKR breaking records.
For a little glimpse at what the limited edition TWKR 42 can do check out Legit Reviews' article on it.

China delays requirement for web filtering software
Just one day until the Green Dam-Youth Escort filtering software was supposed to be installed on all new PCs sold in China and the country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has decided to delay this plan for a yet undetermined period of time.
The Green Dam app is officially said to block access to sites with pornographic material, but it has been criticized for the censorship possibilities it unlocks, as well as for its security issues, and potential copyright infringement. The US has even sent letters to China's government saying that the mandatory install of the filtering software could be in breach of the country's commitments to the World Trade Organization.
Apparently the delay was because of the need of PC makers for more time to implement the software. Hopefully it's more than that and the Chinese authorities will find another way to 'protect' the country's youth.

Micron starts volume production of 34nm NAND memory chips
Paving the way for Intel's reported 320GB SSDs, Micron has now proudly announced that it has kicked off mass production of 34nm NAND flash memory chips. For starters, Micron is making 16 and 32Gb MLC (multi-level cell) chips on 34nm, but it has also begun sampling 8 and 16Gb SLC (single-level cell) parts.
Set to enable even higher capacities for storage devices based on them, the new 34nm MLC NAND chips are more compact than those made on previous process nodes, have an ONFI 2.1 synchronous interface, and are said to deliver transfer speeds of up to 200 MB/s.
"Our industry-leading NAND products are opening new possibilities for some of the worldأ¢آ€آ™s most popular consumer electronic devices," said Brian Shirley, vice president of Micron's memory group. "With our new 16- and 32Gb NAND chips in mass production, we are enabling customers to design cost-effective, high-capacity storage in their small-form factor products, using less space and fewer die. In addition, the high-speed interface is ideal in the industryأ¢آ€آ™s quest to continue to increase throughput performance for SSDs."
To get things rolling Micron subsidiary Lexar Media has stated that it is using the 34nm chips for its new Platinum II 32GB SDHC and 16GB microSDHC memory cards.

Inno3D iChills the ION platform
Seen earlier this month at Computex, Inno3D's ION-based motherboard has now been revealed as bearing the iChill brand, although its maker still hasn't said when we'll be seeing it in stores. The upcoming mini-ITX board is set to become available in two versions - one with a single-core 1.6 GHz Atom CPU, and one with its dual-core counterpart, and feature two DDR2-667/800 memory slots, GeForce 9400 integrated graphics (DirectX 10 support, 16 Stream Processors) clocked at 450 MHz, one eSATA and three SATA 3.0 Gbps ports, Gigabit Ethernet, and 5.1 channel onboard audio.
Inno3D's motherboard will come bundled with a low-profile fan and a 90W external PSU, and provides D-Sub, DVI and HDMI outputs. Just what the doctor ordered for a low-cost nettop. Or is it?

Global Gaming Factory X to acquire The Pirate Bay
In a rather unexpected April 1-like announcement, Global Gaming Factory X, the self proclaimed owner of the biggest network of internet cafأƒآ©s and gaming centers in the world, has reached an agreement to acquire famed torrent tracker The Pirate Bay. The deal worth $7.8 million (half cash, half GGF shares), is expected to be completed in August and is paired up with another GGF buy, that of Peerialism, a software company developing new peer-to-peer technology, for $13 million).
With the Pirate Bay and file-sharing tech in its grasp, GGF plans to transform the former so it "satisfies the requirements and needs of all parties, content providers, broadband operators, end users, and the judiciary."
"We would like to introduce models which entail that content providers and copyright owners get paid for content that is downloaded via the site," said Hans Pandeya, CEO GGF. Without jumping the gun we'd say that GGF wants to turn the Pirate Bay into a nice tropical (well, not tropical, it's in Sweden) resort that probably won't be to the liking of those visiting it currently. It will be interesting to see how this situation evolves so stick around for more info.
