Micron posts $751 million loss but remains hopeful
Micron continued to get burned by a falling demand and lower selling prices for memory products so it comes to no surprise that, for the quarter ended on March 5th aka Q2 of the company's fiscal year 2009, it has made a revenue of $993 million, down almost 30% compared to the previous quarter. Even worse, the losses reached $751 million, up by $45 million over the loss posted in Q1.
According to Micron, in Q2 revenue from DRAM products went down by about 30% sequentially, mostly due to a 30% fall in selling prices, while NAND flash and CMOS image sensor sales went down 20% and 54% respectively.
Even with these bleak results, Steve Appleton, Micron's Chairman and CEO saw the silver lining(s) and said: "We are actively managing our overall cost structure, capital expenditures and technology execution, which are driving our operating margins ahead of industry trend lines." ... "Notably, our 34nm NAND technology is ramping rapidly and is providing a competitive differentiation in this challenging economic environment." Unfortunately, something tells us it'll still get worse before it gets better.
