Nokia announces Point & Find info service
Finnish mobile phone heavyweight, Nokia has today launched Point & Find, a service which enables people to find information on various topics by simply pointing their phone to objects and taking a photo. Accessible in beta form in the US and UK, Point & Find uses image processing and recognition technologies to provide information on the things captured - for example taking a picture of a movie poster will quickly give the user links to trailers, cinemas playing it and such. Nokia's service also recognizes bar codes, integrates GPS positioning technology, and supports category-specific text-entry search so as to deliver even more relevant content.

"With Nokia Point & Find, businesses are able to target engaging experiences and calls-to-action to consumers. We believe that this first Nokia Point & Find-based service for movies will add something special to the cinema experience. Simply by pointing their camera phone at a poster for a new movie, people can watch the trailer, read reviews, and find the closest cinema where it is playing," said Philipp Schloter, General Manager, Nokia Point & Find.

Firefox 3, IE7 play tag at the top of the European browser market
According to the statistics provided by StatCounter, last week Mozilla's Firefox 3 managed to surpass Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 and be the number one browser in Europe. Firefox 3 reached the top spot on Saturday when it had a market share of 36.16%, as opposed to IE7's 35.1$, and increased its lead by going to 37.15% on Sunday. Of course, putting together the market share of IE6, 7 and 8 makes Internet Explorer the top dogg again but it's still a great win for Mozilla's open source browser.

Moving to this week, Firefox 3 went down, with yesterday's numbers putting it at 34.32%, while IE7 held strong at 34.01% and the statistics for today show FF3 slipping to 33% and IE7 jumping to 36%. Nothing to worry about, the Old Continent has a lot of love for open source (and IE alternatives in general).

Wikia Search dies in vein
The creator of Wikipedia attempted to start up a new search service, Wikia Search a while back. But, as of yesterday, the man himself, Jimmy Wales pointed out that it's just not working for him, so he's shutting down the service, basically because he feels he just can not compete with the search goliath Google. "It's not working" so he says on his blog.

Some people have attempted to claim these new search services such as "Wikia Search" as Google Killers, but it seems that none of these so-called Google Killers can kill the beast.

Lenovo shuts down ThinkVantage update service
In a rather insipid way, Lenovo has announced their PC customers that ThinkVantage System Update (TVSU), the automatic update service which has been live since before IBM sold its PC business to Lenovo, will be discontinued. Once TVSU is down people will be able to get software updates for their system via the Lenovo support site yet the company is saying that it is "pursuing alternative solutions for system updates" so the launch of a new update service is, at least in theory, possible.

Lenovo PC owners have expressed their disappointment towards the shut down of TVSU and have actually started a petition in hopes of changing Lenovo's mind.

Zotac GeForce GTX 275 AMP! Edition gets listed
Set to be launched tomorrow, the GeForce GTX 275 is not expected to arrive in stores for almost two weeks but that hasn't kept the relatively elusive GT200 card to appear in stores. The latest 'sighting' is that of the Zotac GeForce GTX 275 AMP a factory-overclocked model which is listed at just under 276 Euro, quite in-line with reports that put GTX 275 prices in the $229 - $279 (229 - 279 Euro) range.

Unfortunately the card's specs are not provided but since it is 'AMP' you know it will have GPU, shader and memory clocks higher than the stock 633, 1404 and 2268 MHz respectively. Other than that, Zotac's GTX 275 AMP! Edition will feature 896MB of GDDR3 memory, a 448-bit memory interface, a dual-slot cooler, PhysX, CUDA, DirectX 10 support and 3-way SLI readiness.
