BlackBerry Messenger relaunches for Android and iPhone after monthlong delay
Nearly a month after problems delayed release of its BlackBerry Messenger apps for iPhone and Android, BlackBerry said it had relaunched the app on Monday. Immediately after the relaunch, which occurred about 2:30 p.m. ET, some BBM customers, including CIO.com blogger Al Sacco tweeted that BBM wasn't working. IBM's do-it-yourself kit makes Internet of things accessible
IBM and hardware partner Libelium hope to cut through the complexities of the so-called "Internet of things" through a do-it-yourself kit allowing users to test and deploy sensor networks. The companies on Monday introduced the Waspmote Mote Runner, a computer that can collect and share data with other devices within wireless range. IBM is providing the software tools while Libelium is making the hardware, which will include sensors to collect weather, server temperature and other information.

Wikipedia bans 250 accounts on pay-for-article concerns
Amid news reports of groups paying users to write Wikipedia entries, the online encyclopedia has blocked or banned more than 250 accounts, the site announced Monday. A number of user accounts, "perhaps as many as several hundred," may have been paid to write Wikipedia articles promoting groups or products, Sue Gardner, executive director of the Wikimedia Foundation, said in a blog post.

Tablets shipments will blast ahead by 53 percent in 2013 as desktop and laptop shipments decline by 11 percent, research firm Gartner forecast on Monday. The emergence of ultramobile devices, which marries a PC with the form factor of a tablet, will help ease the declines in other PCs, but not by much. When ultramobiles are included, the overall PC market will still decline 8.4 percent in 2013, Gartner said.

Microsoft yesterday published instructions for resurrecting a Surface RT that had been bricked by the Windows 8.1 update, along with a recovery image that must be loaded onto a USB flash drive. Update: SAP reports strong revenue growth from HANA and cloud
SAP reported strong revenue growth in its HANA in-memory database and cloud businesses, but also saw revenue from software decline in the third quarter. The company said Monday that its revenue in the quarter was up 2 percent year-on-year to €4 billion ($5.4 billion), according to IFRS (international financial reporting standards). Profit soared 23 percent to €762 million.
