TweakTown RumorTT: No new Radeon GPUs from AMD for most of 2013 During an interview with Japanese site 4Gamer.net, AMD's Product Manager for Desktop Graphics Products, Devon Nekechuk, revealed some startling information: that AMD won't be launching any new GPUs this year.

AMD will instead concentrate on their already great Radeon HD 7000 series, by adjusting the price and performance increases through driver releases. A slide released to 4Gamers.net shows that AMD's Radeon HD 7900 series (high-end), HD 7800 series (performance), and HD 7700 series (mainstream), will carry on the company's mantle "throughout 2013." It looks like we're seeing a slowing down of GPU releases, which I'm guessing is because there's hardly any games that push GPUs anymore. It's also incredibly expensive in terms of R&D for GPU makers to continue pushing new GPUs out every 6-12 months, but I think the real reason is that a $200-$300 GPU will play most games at 1080p@60 now.

If this is the case, we should expect the Radeon HD 8000 series to be released and bring with it a massive increase in performance - especially if we're having to wait 18-24 months between GPU releases. It might give the GPU companies the time to refine their drivers and performance, which will mean great things for consumers - free increases in performance and stability without spending more money.

Apple to open new R&D center in Israel later this year Apple has been scooping up a bunch of Israel-based former Texas Instruments employees, and will now give them a new place to go to work in the country, their new R&D center in Ra'anana, Israel.

The news comes from Israeli business publication "Globes". In December of 2011, we saw Apple purchase Israel-based flash memory firm Anobit for between $400-$500 million, their second largest acquisition after NeXT. Intel were also laying out dollar bills on the ground to try and lure in some ex-Texas Instruments employees, but it looks like Apple were the winners here. The Cupertino-based electronics giant were able to grab around 100-150 employees to staff their new development center. Apple will reportedly open up the new R&D center in the city in "the second half of 2013".

RumorTT: Apple playing with wearable iOS devices Wearable computing is the next logical step for smart devices, and it looks like Apple is also playing around with wearable iOS-based devices according to reports from The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.
rumortt_apple_playing_with_wearable_ios_devices
The New York Times is reporting that Apple have been "experimenting" with wrist-wearable devices that would feature curved glass screens, and of course, iOS. Of course we might not even see this outside of Apple's super-secret experimental labs, but with the way we're seeing things pushed into the wearable computing market, I think we should be safe to see we'll see an 'iWatch' sooner rather than later.
