Facebook study shows culture has effect on profile picture choice
It's always a difficult task to choose the next profile picture that you're going to use. You put a lot of thought into the process and probably look at several photos for a while before deciding. You may even ask a friend or two what they think. It turns out that there is also some cultural influence into the decision as well.
Your profile picture has different qualities depending on your culture. According to a new study, Americans tend to focus on the face and usually have a close-up shot where the face takes up most of the frame. This is contrary to Taiwanese users who tend to have some background visible and a much smaller portion of the frame taken up by the face.
The study was done twice after the first one found the correlation. The second time around they increased the sample size and locations in which they were drawing participants from and the findings still held true. The study also showed that Americans preferred a more intense facial expression such as a huge smile while Taiwanese tended to have a less intense expression.
The researchers explain:
Overall, the two studies clearly showed that East Asian Facebook users are more likely to deemphasize their faces compared to Americans. Specifically, East Asians living in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan exhibited a predilection for context inclusiveness in their profile photographs, whereas Americans tended to prioritize their focal face at the expense of the background. There are always these subconscious decisions that are made that people don't even think about. These offline cultural differences are showing up online which could actually be an interesting way to study cultures in one simple location. I'm sure more studies will now be done after the results of this one. There have also been others that have already done that showed females change their profile picture more then males.

Huawei to release custom Android UI called "Emotion UI" in July
Details surrounding Huawei's new Emotion UI aren't plentiful or clear, but we do know somethings. Samsung, HTC, and now ZTE all have custom user interfaces for their Android phones so it seems as though Huawei doesn't want to be left behind. As such, Huawei is now working on a UI called Emotion UI, likely for ICS.
Considering the other manufacturers' UIs works on Ice Cream Sandwich, it makes sense that that is what Huawei will be targeting. The new UI will be unveiled June 9 and will become available sometime in July. Updates will be pushed to currently shipping Huawei Android phones so that they will get the new user interface.
Functionality of the new UI is not clear. Huawei is using words such as "emotional," "simple," and "smart" when describing it, but that doesn't exactly tell us that much. This UI also may not make it out of China, although it could as Huawei is trying to become a global manufacturer. The only downside to this custom UI is that updates will now take longer when new Android versions come out.

LG unveils the world's first Full HD smartphone display, sports a pixel density of 440ppi
Just when you thought you wouldn't upgrade your phone beyond the already-announced and nearly here GALAXY S III from Samsung, or alternatively, HTC's One X, or if you're an Apple fan, the not-out-yet iPhone 5.
LG have just unveiled a new display for smartphones that shoves 1920x1080 pixels into a 5-inch screen. It's the world's first Full HD smartphone display and has an amazing pixel density of 440ppi, way out and beyond what we have in today's phones.
The panel LG have used is an Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching or AH-IPS LCD. It's the same technology that LG used in one of their panels last year and when compared to a standard IPS panel, AH-IPS panels sport greater color accuracy, wider viewing angles and greater light transmission which all leads to lower power consumption.
We should expect this 5-inch Full HD display to be released in the second half of the year, and baked into smartphones sometime next year.

HIS Radeon HD 7870 IceQ 2GB Video Cards in CrossFire Overclocked Review
Introduction
A while ago we looked at the HIS HD 7870 IceQ Turbo and even HIS found themselves impressed with what the video card was capable of when we started overclocking it. Wanting to see if we could have the same kind of success with the non-Turbo model, HIS sent it over to us.Along with finding out the overclocking ability of the non-Turbo model, HIS wanted us to try out the new iTurbo software from them which is one of the most recent attempts of a company bringing their own video card overclocking software to the table. We've always been very much MSI Afterburner exclusive here thanks to regular updates and just a great user interface, but over the years we've looked at what companies have bought to the table with ASUS and SmartDoctor along with Sapphire and Trixx to name just a couple.
Because the non-Turbo model is near identical to the Turbo model we looked at earlier we won't get into the package or the video card itself. We will quickly take a look at the specifications, though, while we also take the time to overclock this video card here today.
To make it more interesting as well we thought that we'd throw our Turbo card into the mix today and see how the cards went in CrossFire. With our fingers crossed the non-Turbo video card showed the same kind of overclocking success as the Turbo model, we should be able to get some excellent performance out of the setup here.
We'll also be taking the time to have a closer look at the iTurbo software that HIS is promoting. We'll go through the main areas of it and talk about what it has and more importantly what it's missing. Once we've done that we'll quickly how we went with overclocking.
As we said, outside of the "Turbo" labeling on the video card and box, there is no change between the two models here from a physical stand point. The only other change comes in the way of the clock speeds which we'll be covering in just a moment. If you want have a closer look at the bundle and video card, then I recommend you check out our review on the HIS HD 7870 IceQ Turbo we did back in March. For now let's take a closer look at the HIS iTurbo software before moving onto the specifications and the overclock we managed to achieve.
