U.S. DoE to build fastest supercomputer with Tesla GPUs
Talk about some nice PR for Nvidia. The U.S. Department of Energy is apparently planning to deploy the world's most powerful supercomputer by a long shot, and it's going to use Nvidia's Tesla GPUs to do it.

webOS's fate could be sealed today
TouchPad fire sale notwithstanding, webOS has pretty much been on life support since August 18. Will it be moved to a different hospital or booted back into the street? We'll find out soon, according to AppleInsider. The site quotes "people familiar with the company's plans" as saying HP will hold a meeting today that "may reveal its future plans for selling or spinning off the [webOS] group."

Building a top-of-the-line PC? By the time Intel's Sandy Bridge-E chips roll out, you may have to think twice about getting a fancy aftermarket cooler. X-bit labs reports that retail-boxed Sandy Bridge-E CPUs will ship with a closed-loop liquid cooler from Asetek.

Windows 8 will use less memory than Win7
Memory is cheap these days. Case in point: Newegg is currently selling an 8GB kit of Corsair's Vengeance DDR3-1600 DIMMs for less than $50. Despite the availability of cheap RAM, Microsoft is taking steps to reduce the memory usage of Windows 8. Redmond's efforts are detailed on the Building Windows 8 blog, which starts by comparing the new OS's memory usage with Windows 7. On a system with only a gig of RAM, Windows 7 idles at the desktop with a 404MB memory footprint. Windows 8 consumes just 281MB running on the same hardware.

Rage update addresses PC issues
When speaking to Kotaku last week about the issues afflicting Rage on the PC, id's Tim Willits and John Carmack laid much of the blame at the feet of graphics drivers from AMD and Nvidia. Carmack went so far as go call the driver issues "a real cluster !@#$," which is a term perhaps better reserved for Rage's PC release as a whole.
