Asus' Eee Pad Transformer is rather unique in the world of tablets, not only because it docks into a keyboard with a built-in battery and touchpad, but also because the base tablet starts at only $399. Coming in at $100 less than the iPad was a smart move, and it's surely had a hand in the Transformer's popularity. Surely, at $199, the upcoming Kindle Fire can't be much of a cash cow for Amazon. Or can it? IHS iSuppli has put together an estimate of the device's bill-of-materials cost, and it reckons that the device is worth $191.65 in parts, or $209.63 once you factor in "manufacturing expenses." Report: Llano to remain in short supply 'til next year
Last week, AMD warned that manufacturing issues at GlobalFoundries had curbed supply of Llano processors, causing it to miss third-quarter revenue guidance. DigiTimes now reports that the situation may not improve until next year.
