S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Could Use Always-On DRM
When S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 arrives next year, there is a chance the game could use an always-on DRM strategy. GSC, developer of the series, is thinking of including always-on DRM to combat piracy in its home region of countries that were once a part of the USSR. Piracy is rife in that area, so GSC is considering the possibility of including DRM in the next S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game. Nothing is confirmed just yet, so do not get worried that the series could turn to an always-on requirement. Some games have moved to that strategy, like Diablo III and virtually everything produced for the PC by Ubisoft, but a game that requires a constant Internet connection is not popular with the gamers. Sometimes you simply do not have an Internet connection, be it during travel or weather conditions, so if you were to try to play a game that used always-on DRM, you could not play the game you bought. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 has the potential to require an Internet connection at all times, but GSC is still considering all the possibilities of DRM for the game.

ECS Sponsoring 3DMark Overclocking Competition
ECS has announced that it will be sponsoring an overclocking competition in association with 3DMark. The ECS OverClock Shootout runs from October 10 to November 6. There will be two chances to win each week, one for the highest score using the 3DMark 2011 performance preset, and one for precision scores. To win the prize for precision scoring, your score must end in either 99 or 75. Power winners will take home a motherboard and GPU from ECS and a power supply and CPU cooler from Enermax. A random winner will be chosen from all precision scores to take home an ECS A75F-A motherboard. German Government Malware Found?
The German hacker group, Chaos Computer Club (CCC), has found what they believe is a government-made piece of malware. German police are able to legally install wiretapping software to monitor services like Skype and other VOIP programs, but the law still prohibits them from installing or accessing other software on a suspect’s computer. This malware, according to security firm Sophos’ analysis, would allow someone to monitor instant messaging software, log keystrokes in Internet browsers and capture screenshots of the display. Supposedly the software can also activate a computer’s microphone or camera remotely. Sophos does not comment on if this piece of malware does come from the German government. Even if the source is just another group of hackers, this Trojan still is a great danger as all of its commands are unencrypted, meaning anyone can access an infect system.

Carmack Calls the RAGE PC Launch a Disaster
PC gamers hoping to feel some love from the house that built Doom were probably feeling pangs of disappointment upon the RAGE PC launch, what with the numerous technical glitches that translated to an experience that wasn't typical of an id Software title. While a comprehensive patch has been rolled out to address those issues, John Carmack has also voiced out his opinion on the less-than-stellar release for the PC version of RAGE: "The driver issues at launch have been a real cluster !@#$." The coding veteran explained to Kotaku that the primary culprit for this was the "wrong driver" getting released, resulting in an end product that didn't perform correctly with a lot of PC customers.
The bad news doesn't stop there. Carmack goes on to establish the role of PCs in id Software's future plans: "We do not see the PC as the leading platform for games." With the console versions of RAGE seen as more profitable than the PC counterpart, the dev team famously known for its Doom and Quake series will be allocating less resources into its PC development efforts. Although on a positive note, RAGE PC has been selling quite well despite its shortcomings, so there's still a sliver of hope that id Software will modify its priorities to favor the PC in the future.
