Hulu Owners Call Off Sale
I guess now that no one is interested in buying Hulu anymore, the company has taken itself off the market. That has to be a bit depressing.
"Since Hulu holds a unique and compelling strategic value to each of its owners, we have terminated the sale process and look forward to working together to continue mapping out its path to even greater success," Hulu owners said in a statement. "Our focus now rests solely on ensuring that our efforts as owners contribute in a meaningful way to the exciting future that lies ahead for Hulu."

People in Line for an iPhone Are Weirder Than Ever
Don't get mad at me, I'm not the one that said people waiting in line for an iPhone are weirder than ever.
This is the fifth time in as many years that Apple fans are lining up by the thousands to buy the new iPhone model, and it's mad as ever. With shrines to the late Steve Jobs still on display, Apple Stores from London to Sydney opened their doors to cheers on Friday as people who'd been waiting outside for hours, some of them days, rushed in to be the first to upgrade.

Microsoft Officially Welcomes Skype
Microsoft Corp. has closed its acquisition of Skype Global S.à r.l. Negotiations of the definitive agreement under which Microsoft would acquire Skype, an Internet communications company, for $8.5 billion were led by investor group Silver Lake and the transaction was originally announced on May 10, 2011. Boards of directors of both Microsoft and Skype previously approved the acquisition.

Lack of Copy Protection Decreases Music Piracy
The results of a joint study between marketing professors at Rice University and Duke University shows that a lack of copyright protection decreases music piracy. Thanks to [H] reader Q-BZ for the link.
"Removal of these restrictions makes the product more convenient to use and intensifies competition with the traditional format (CDs), which has no DRM restrictions," Vernik said. "This increased competition results in decreased prices for both downloadable and CD music and makes it more likely that consumers will move from stealing music to buying legal downloads."

Father of C Programming Language, Dies
Dennis Ritchie, the man who created the C programming language, has died at age 70.
In addition to being the creator of C, Ritchie co-authored "The C Programming Language," commonly referred to as K&R (after the authors, Brian Kernighan and Ritchie) and widely considered the definitive work on C. He also made significant contributions to the development of the Unix operating system, for which he received the Turing Award in 1983 (along with Kenneth Thompson).

91% of Kids Are Gamers
A new report claims that 91% of kids are gamers. Apparently 9% of the parents out there don't love their children.
While the average age of today's video game player is 37 years old (no really), new research shows that the youngest generation is as game savvy as they get. According to a new report from market research company The NPD Group, 91 percent of kids in the U.S. between the ages of two and 17 are gamers.

Should we even need bills like this? What ever happened to laws and regulations against false advertising?
Together the lawmakers are aiming to cut through the marketing mishmash that slaps the 4G label on a handful of next-generation network flavors such as LTE, HSPA+, and WiMAX. True 4G, as originally defined with speeds of 100mbps, is nowhere in sight for U.S. consumers.
