Anti-Piracy Company Pirates Deus Ex To Conduct Piracy Experiment
You read that right, an anti-piracy company downloaded a pirated copy of Deus Ex, inserted its own code and reuploaded it to the torrent sites. I'm sure this will go over well with game companies.
A young anti-piracy outfit say they conducted a most unusual experiment a few weeks ago. According to the founder of Vigilant Defender, the company took a leaked copy of Deus Ex Human Revolution, modified its code and re-uploaded it to torrent sites. Users downloading the copy got to enjoy the first few levels of the game but were then thrown into a controversial experiment.

BlackBerry Services Offline Again For Some. Again.
It looks like the RIM is having more network problems. The company has more hang-ups than a Christmas tree lately. How many outages is that this month?
We've received several reports of a second BlackBerry outage for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, and our friends over at T-Mobile UK and Vodafone Egypt have confirmed again on Twitter, just several hours after RIM tweeted that service had been restored. So, what's going on over there? We're reaching out to RIM for a statement, and like those of you affected, we can only hope that things get back up and running very quickly. Are you outraged? Crucial Ballistix 8GB DDR3 2000MHz CL9 Memory Kit
The gang at Legit Reviews has an 8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3 2000MHz CL9 memory kit strapped to the test bench today for a little review action.
After using the Crucial BallistiX DDR3 DDR3-2000 8GB kit in my primary PC for a couple, I quickly became spoiled by having an extra 4GB of RAM available compared to the 4GB kit I had been using previously. Even having a few standard applications like an internet browser, photo editor, media player, and office applications open resulted in system RAM usage of 4GB in Windows. So, I am officially convinced that I need more than 4GB of RAM for daily use.

Microsoft Security Intelligence Report Puts "Zero-Day" Threat Into Context
At RSA Conference Europe 2011 today, Microsoft Corp. released the Microsoft Security Intelligence Report volume 11 (SIRv11), which found that less than 1 percent of exploits in the first half of 2011 were against zero-day vulnerabilities — software vulnerabilities that are successfully exploited before the vendor has published a security update or "patch." In contrast, 99 percent of all attacks during the same period distributed malware through familiar techniques, such as social engineering and unpatched vulnerabilities. In the report, Microsoft highlights the fact that some of the more common threats can be mitigated through good security best practices.

Hackers Claim Officials Used Backdoor Trojan
I always cringe when I read stories like this where government officials trying to outsmart hackers. These stories never end well...for the feds.
The largest European hacker club, "Chaos Computer Club" (CCC), has reverse engineered and analyzed a "lawful interception" malware program used by German police forces. It has been found in the wild and submitted to the CCC anonymously. The malware can not only siphon away intimate data but also offers a remote control or backdoor functionality for uploading and executing arbitrary other programs. Significant design and implementation flaws make all of the functionality available to anyone on the internet.

Dart: Google's Alternative to JavaScript
Head on over to Google's official code blog and check out the preview of Dart, a "class-based optionally typed programming language for building web applications".
Dart targets a wide range of development scenarios: from a one-person project without much structure to a large-scale project needing formal types in the code to state programmer intent. To support this wide range of projects, Dart has optional types; this means you can start coding without types and add them later as needed. We believe Dart will be great for writing large web applications.

California Governor Veto Allows Warrantless Cellphone Searches
Hey boys and girls, warrantless cellphone searches will soon be all the rage again thanks to the governor decision to veto legislation that blocked them. Damn, just when you thought it was safe to travel to/in/around California.
The Sunday veto means that when police arrest anybody in the Golden State, they may search that person's mobile phone — which in the digital age likely means the contents of persons' e-mail, call records, text messages, photos, banking activity, cloud-storage services, and even where the phone has traveled.

Anonymous Threatens NYSE
Anonymous has now decided to threaten the New York Stock Exchange. We're not really sure what is up with all the threats-but-no-action lately but I think the mass arrests might have something to do with that.
The voice, flat and idiomatic, concluded, "Those who are going to be part of the attack have a message to the NYSE: We have you because we don't like you. We are all anonymous. We are all one legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. NYSE, expect those of us who plan to destroy you."
