Apple rumored to axe iconic iPod
Apple owes much of its success to the original iPod, which made MP3 players mainstream and spawned an entire family of devices that continues to dominate the market. The iPod lineup currently spans four models, including the Shuffle, Nano, Classic, and Touch. According to TUAW, however, two of those models could be on the way out. Rumor has it that the iPod Shuffle and Classic will be discontinued before the end of the year.

AMD warns on third-quarter results
Late yesterday, AMD warned investors that its results for this year's third quarter will be lower than expected. The company previously said revenue would climb 8-12% from the second quarter to the third, and it forecast a third-quarter margin of "approximately 47%." Now, the company expects a 4-6% revenue increase and gross margin of 44-45%.

L.A. Noire coming to the PC on November 8
Rockstar's critically acclaimed L.A. Noire was release on consoles way back in May. Come November 8, PC users will get their first taste of the detective thriller, which mixes elements of action and adventure in what is apparently a compelling—if slow-paced—narrative. The PC version is due to include all of the console DLC released thus far, plus higher levels of graphical detail than what's offered by the Xbox and PlayStation releases. 3D Vision support is on the menu, too.

32-nm Cedarview Atoms pop up online
Intel has quietly added a pair of next-generation Atom processors to Ark, its online archive of product specifications. The chips are part of the Cedar Trail platform, whose Cedarview CPUs are the first Atoms to be built on 32-nm process technology. Existing Pineview Atom CPUs are fabbed on a 45-nm process.

It's raining Kindles: Amazon announces four new devices
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos took a page from Steve Jobs's playbook at a keynote in New York City this morning, where he played up the success of current-generation devices before announcing four new models. Intel drops MeeGo, backs new OS project
