Facebook has quietly introduced new permissions that will allow third-party apps to access even more private information from user accounts. In a brief announcement Facebook's Developer Blog, the company has highlighted new options for accessing addresses and mobile phone numbers of individuals who use the apps.

Acer is preparing several Sandy Bridge tablets
Beside the ARM-flavored tablets displayed at CES, Acer is set on bringing out by mid-year two or three tablet PCs which are powered by Intel's new 32nm Sandy Bridge processors. The unnamed devices are set to have 7-inch and 10-inch touchscreens and interestingly-enough, the SB tablet PCs are claimed to run Android and not Windows 7, which is the most common operating system on hardware powered by an x86 chip.

Radeon HD 6970 with 1GB debuts in February
The battle on the sub-$300 graphics card battlefield is about to heat up and the next due to the release of the GeForce GTX 560 (now called GTX 560 Ti, where Ti stands for Titanium; ah, the good times) and of 1GB Radeon HD 6950/6970 cards. The 1GB HD 6950 and GTX 560 are supposed to come out next week, while the HD 6970 is said to debut around mid-February.

More than half of Android users on version 2.2
Google's latest official data showed that Android 2.2 has finally become the majority version of the OS just as 2.3 has hit the streets. Basing its information on results as of early this month, about 51.8 percent were using the previous version about eight months after it was first made public at Google I/O in May. Owing in part to the limited launch of the Nexus S, only 0.4 percent were using the true latest release. About 12.6 percent of the total Android user base was running 1.6 or earlier, including builds that are now up to a year and a half old.

Next iOS devices to be twice as fast
The next generation iPhones and iPads are rumored to have Apple's new System on a Chip, which will feature the much more powerful dual core SGX543MP2 graphics chip. It is also said that the chip would enable four times the pixel count of previous iPad. The new iPad 2 Retina display would have a resolution of 2048 x 1536.
