Taiwan wants standardised notebook power supplies :: Posted by THRASHER2
Major players voice their support
Taiwan-based notebook companies want power supply units (PSU) to be standardised.
The move follows the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) saying that it wants to set up a dedicated team for the initiative.
According to Digitimes Taiwan's brand vendors Acer, and Asustek Computer and manufacturers such as Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron, Pegatron Technology and Inventec have voiced their support.
It is going to be some time before all the details are sorted out . Handset charger standardization, began several years ago and we are still waiting for a result.
Laptop makers are a bit nervious at the moment because shipments expected to go down, margin will go up and so better PSUs are needed to offset the impact.
The IEEE hopes to lower e-waste by enabling one PSU for multiple mobile computing devices. It would eliminate the need to pay for a new PSU for each new notebook, tablet or netbook.

Taiwan wants standardised notebook power supplies :: Reply by Karlsweldt
Now THAT is something I would like to see!
Almost every manufacturer has a different power supply for their laptops.. not to mention printers, cell phones, et al.
Standardizing a model for the purpose would eliminate a lot of stock waste for companies, as well as having "one type fits all" so their power supply can be used with another company's product, and vice-versa. Enough of the "in-house only" provisions!!

Athlon II X4 645 coming in Q3 2010 :: Posted by THRASHER2
3.1GHz at 95W TDP
AMD's Propus is about to get another, faster iteration. In reality, Propus is a CPU derived from Deneb with no L3 cache, 2MB total L2 cache, or 512 for each core.
The CPU is a quad core, supports DDR3 1333 and comes in AM3 package. The currently fastest Propus is Athlon II X4 640 clocked at 3.0GHZ and Q3 should see it get topped by a 3.1GHz clocked part. The name of the new CPU is Athlon II X4 645, this CPU is clocked at 3.1GHZ and like its predecessor - it has a 95W TDP.
Let us remind you that this AM3 CPU should also work in many AM2+ based motherboards. The launch date of Athlon II X4 645 is Q3 2010 and we're talking about the quarter that started at the beginning of this month.

AMD plans faster Athlon II X2 for Q3 :: Posted by THRASHER2
Athlon II X2 265 is the name
If you didnÂ’t think that 3.2GHz speed was ok for a dual core, Regor based Athlon II X2, then you'll probably be happy to hear that a 3.3GHz dual core is just around the corner.
Both of these CPUs have a TDP of 65W, which is quite nice considering the clocks. The currently fastest Athlon II X2 260 works at 3.2GHZ and has 2MB total cache, 2x512KB L2 and 1MB L3 cache. The new faster Athlon II X2 265 has the same specs, same 65W TDP but 3.3GHZ core clock.
The plan is to launch this CPU in Q3 2010; it looks like it might launch closer to August time, when back to school shopping spree starts but these dates are always plans and never a final thing. A keen observer's eye can spot that all of AMD´s 2010 offer is based on K10.5 45nm derived K10 core and that all the next generation Bulldozer based cores are placed in 2011.
These dual cores are quite a nice option for anyone who's looking for a new dual core as Athlon II X2 260, currently the fastest of them all, sells for €72.90 here.

Intel opens new Interaction division :: Posted by THRASHER2
Looking for new interfaces
Intel's chief technology officer Justin Rattner has opened a new research division called Interaction and Experience Research. The big idea is to come up with new interfaces between computers and make things a little more personal.
Apparently Intel has been wondering how people will interact with a computing device in the future. The division will be led by Intel fellow Genevieve Bell, who said: "Intel now touches more things in people's lives than just the PC. Intel chips and the internet are now in televisions, set-tops, handhelds, cars, signage and more.
IXR will build on 15 years of research into the ways in which people use, re-use and resist new information and communication technologies.

Asus shows its Dual Intelligent Processors motherboards :: Posted by THRASHER2
The TPU and EPU combined
Asus has steped out to promote its new approach to motherboard design, the Dual Intelligent Processors, or simply DIP. The idea behind it is actually a combination of two Asus' technologies, TurboV Processing Unit and Energy Processing Unit, in order to bring better performance and greater energy efficiency.
The name, Dual Intelligent Processors, was embraced due to the combination of two intelligent co-processors, as Asus calls them. The TurboV Processing Unit, or TPU, is responsible for speeding up performance in real time depending on the need, while maintaining stability and according to Asus, it brigns a boost of up to 37 percent.
The Energy Processing Unit, or EPU, monitors actual usage of the system and moderates power consumption by lowering or rasing perfromance once needed.
The full list of motherboards include both Intel's and AMD's platforms with Intel's P55, H57 and H55 as well as AMD's 890FX, 890GX, 880G and 870 chipset. The one motherboard that Asus is very proud of is the P7P55D-E Deluxe.

New Powercolor HD 5770 detailed :: Posted by THRASHER2
Meet the new Vortex
We managed to score some pictures and details regarding Powercolor's upcoming HD 5770 Vortex card and according to what we managed to find out so far, the new Vortex cooler will bring similar cooling performance to the cooler seen on PCS+ cards.
For starters, Powercolor will use this cooler on the HD 5770 card, while there are some plans to introduce some other cards with the same cooler, but those are still in R&D stage. As noted, Vortex cooler will have the same cooling performance as the PCS+ cooler launched a while back due to its triple-slot design. The card might end up to be factory overclocked but that is something that we weren't able to confirm at this time. In any case we are sure that there will be a lot of overclocking potential.
The new Powercolor HD 5770 should be available pretty soon and should have a price tag similar to the PCS+ branded card. You can check out the other picture over at Powercolor Facebook page.
