The fastest CPU ever to land in a notebook will soon be Core i7 940XM, a 55W chip which is part of Extreme Edition series, bringing four cores and eight threads support. Currently Intel sells Core i7 Extreme edition i7 920XM clocked at 2.0GHz with 3.2GHz core clock with turbo overclocking, yet the official clock of the new 940XM is 2.13GHz, and with the help of turbo this CPU can work all the way to 3.33GHz.

First dual-core AMD Fusion to use Hudson D1 southbridge
The first to launch Fusion, a dual-core 32nm CPU with DirectX 11 graphics will interconnect with the Hudson D1 Southbridge. The TDP of first Fusion should be 25W, and the Southbridge will need an additional 6W. Hudson D1 supports PCIe 4x and 1x interface, and the USB support is kind of an awkward as it supports 14 USB 2.0 ports and two USB 1.1 ports.

According to some sources, Nvidia's reference GeForce GTX 460 card is the one with a 192-bit memory interface and 768MB of memory, while the 1GB version with a 256-bit memory interface will be done by partners. This also suggests that the 1GB version could have a better, non-reference cooling.

Mozilla is celebrating the fact that two billion add-ons for its Firefox browser have been downloaded by users. Although some would see this as a suggestion that their original product is lacking features, it's good news for the non-profit Mozilla Foundation. The company's Julie Shin Choi said this feat was made possible by the huge community of people as well as the thousands of developers who make the add-ons.

Asetek prepares high-performance liquid-cooled All-in-One PC
The cooling experts at Asetek have worked on a liquid cooling solution that can be integrated into an All-in-One desktop PCs. Such a solution can now be seen in a video uploaded by Asetek on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LfIjp4XhcI): The prototype features an aluminum frame 58mm thick, has a 24-inch LED-backlit panel, and packs two reasonably hot components, a 2.66 GHz Core i7 920 processor (130W TDP) and a GeForce GTX 280M graphics card (75W), both of which are hooked up to an LC system that has its radiator and low-profile pump placed in the PC's stand.

Lenovo starts shipping 3D-enabled IdeaPad
Lenovo has begun shipping their first 3D-enabled notebook named IdeaPad Y560d. The computer utilizes the TriDef 3D system and contains ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 instead than NVIDIA's popular 3D Vision technology. A 15.6-inch display with 1366x768 resolution comes standard on all models. The 1.60GHz quad Core i7 variant is the first to arrive on the market, with 4GB of RAM and a standard 500GB HDD. The system is available directly from Lenovo and other retailers for $1500.

Google buys flight information software developer
Google has signed a deal for $700 million to to acquire Cambridge, Massachusetts-based ITA Software, the developer of the QPX software tool for organizing flight information. This deal is set to enable Google to make and offer new flight search solutions that help people find better flight information over the interweb.

Radeons HD 5000 and GeForce GTXes coming to Mac
A new firmware which came with Mac OS X 10.6.4 for the new Mac mini, as well as a set of leaked NVIDIA drivers, has suggested that Macs will have Radeon HD 5000 and GeForce 400 graphics in the near future. The ATI-oriented code doesn't identify any graphics processors by name, but does appear to run an aftermarket Radeon HD 5870 on a basic level through some extra work.
