Kingston intros low-voltage HyperX DDR3 memory kits
Kingston is adding a pinch of green to its HyperX memory line today with the release of the new LoVo (low voltage) DDR3 kits which feature modules operating at 1.25V/1.35V and not the JEDEC-standard 1.5V or the Intel-imposed 1.65V. The lower-power kits feature Intel XMP support, make use of green-themed HyperX aluminum heatsinks and go from 1333 MHz to 1866 MHz in terms of speed.
"Kingston Technology is proud to lead the charge with memory for the new generation of energy efficient systems that yield higher performance," said Mark Tekunoff, senior technology manager, Kingston. "Energy-conscious consumers need to look no further for memory than the HyperX 'LoVo' line when they are assembling the components needed to achieve better PC power performance."
The first four HyperX LoVo kits are detailed below and are backed by a lifetime warranty.
- KHX1333C9D3UK2/4GX - 2GB x 2 | 1333 MHz | CL 9-9-9-27 | 1.25V | $154

Alpine and Nokia to integrate smartphones into car systems
Alpine Electronics has teamed up with Nokia and NAVTEQ in order to provide enhanced integration between a users' smartphone and in-car infotainment systems. Called Terminal Mode, the new linking technology works via USB cable or Bluetooth and will bring smartphone widget-based services like navigation, music, weather reports and application stores, as well as call functions into the car environment for easy access.
Once a connection is established, people will get to utilize smartphone services via the screens and audio systems embedded in the car, simple as that (more or less).
"The infotainment system of a modern car is a natural extension for the capabilities of smartphones. Not only will it simplify the use of turn-by-turn voice guidance from Ovi Maps, but also provide a new and easy way of accessing other content on the smartphone, such as music, and delivering automotive specific widgets from the Ovi Store," said Vishal Chatrath, Head of Product Development for Nokia Automotive.
According to the companies involved in its development and promotion, the 'Terminal Mode' tech is 'close' to release.
