CeBIT 2010: MSI - Twin Frozer and Gaming Laptops
BigBang series of motherboards was in focus of the MSI stand, and we were especially attracted by model Xpower equipped with the X58 chipset. Models with the new AMD 890FX chipset were also presented as the top offer of new generation of AMD chipsets. The aforementioned chipset embodied in the form of model 890FXA-GD70 is equipped with as many as six PCI Express slots intended for most demanding users. Already seen Lightning series got the new representatives, and we could see a bunch of new models equipped with Twin Frozr II cooling. Of course, until NVIDIA finally get some Fermi cards out (probably by the end of the month), the domination of all possible and impossible versions Radeons is not a suprise, yet we found some NVIDIA models from previous generation. On the other hand, MSI demonstrated the capabilities of its software for overclocking Afterburner from the operating system on a large display on its booth, which greatly helps finding the limit cycles and maximum graphics cards.

CeBIT 2010: ASUS - From Dualheaded Radeon to eBook Reader
Speaking of basic components, we saw a lot of new things in ASUS' booth. In addition to several versions of new motherboards with H55, H57 and Q57 chipsets, high end models were also in focus, especially the new Crosshair Formula IV and IV Extreme Crosshair, exclusive solutions for AMD AM3 processors and high overclocking range equipped with AMD 890FX + SB850 chipset combination. On the other hand, there were several solutions for HTPCs, with dual-core Atom processors and ION chipsets with passive cooling (AT3IONT-I).

CeBIT 2001: Kingston - Hyperfast Memory
Although we all agree that it will take some time before we begin to replace our hard drives with SSDs, people from Kingston are slowly accelerating things and forcing us to think more in that direction. Today, they got the big Wow! of us when they showed how easy is it to copy the entire content of a CD for just one second. Namely, if you connect four SSDs from Kingston V+ series in the second generation of RAID, it is possible to achieve transfer speeds over 800 MB/s. Totally crazy, right? However the biggest problem is that Intel ICH10R south bridge with SATA II controller can't push so great speeds, and this system requires additional SATA controller, in our case a PCIe card.

CeBIT 2010: Verbatim - Speed and Capacity, but Different Products
Similar to CES appearance earlier this year, there were several USB 3.0 devices on display at Verbatim booth. Theirs first 1TB external HDD will come with USB 3.0 port, making it available to achieve 10x faster transfer speeds comparing to USB 2.0 devices. At the same time, new externals will be equipped with power saving features, cutting down power consumption. They also offered 500 GB 2.5 devices with both USB 2.0 and eSATA connectivity as a bridged solution until USB 3.0 gains momentum. As not many users have 3.0 capable motherboards, they will bundle USB 3.0 controller card, but they are still not sure who will manufacture controller.

CeBIT 2010: WD - Big Names in HDD Business Starting With SSD Offering
After offering SSDs for business customers, WD finally started offering these for end users. Coming as not much surprise this series is called WD SiliconEdge Blue SSD, and they should be available through distributors and resellers very soon. As WD is biggest manufacturer of HDDs, it is still not so big surprise to see them in this business, as they started with research of SSD controllers in late 80’s. That’s the reason why they are using their own controller instead of using one coming from Toshiba, Samsung, Intel or some other manufacturer.
