India still adding IT jobs despite recession

India added 487,000 jobs in its IT and BPO (business process outsourcing) export industries in the quarter ended Dec. 31, despite the global recession, according to a Quarterly Quick Employment Survey by the country's labor bureau.

The survey was conducted to assess the impact of the economic slowdown on employment in India.

Is Novell worth $2 billion?

Novell isn't the IT giant it once was, but the company may be well worth the $2 billion offered in a takeover bid by a New York hedge fund, analysts say. Novell's value is "at least that, and more," says Gartner analyst Earl Perkins.

In a letter sent Tuesday to Novell's board of directors, the hedge fund Elliott Associates said its offer of $5.75 per share represented a premium of 49 percent over Novel's enterprise value, a measure that includes a firm's market capitalization, preferred stock and debt.

Vizioncore tool will soon manage Hyper-V and Xen

Vizioncore's management tool vFoglight will work with Microsoft's virtualization platform Hyper-V by the middle of the year and with Xen from Citrix by the end of the year, the company said Wednesday at Cebit.

At last year's Cebit, attendees only wanted to talk about VMware's products, but that has changed this year, according to Lothar Esser, channel manager at Vizioncore. That means there is also more demand for management tools for Hyper-V and Xen, he said.
