Infinitec Launches Infinite USB Memory Device For Ad Hoc Streaming
It's not too often these days that a product hits the market and really catches everyone off guard (in a good way, at least), but it looks like a small start-up named Infinitec has done just that. It has launched a new product with a huge tagline: the Infinite USB Memory Device. "Infinite" sounds pretty crazy to us, but the IUM is actually not a flash drive at all; instead, it's a USB stick-styled device with a small computer within it.Why would you need a USB stick in your PC when it can't hold anything? EU Refuses To Accept Provisions of Abusive Copyright Treaty
In the United States, discussions of copyright protection and infringement inevitably revolve around the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, or DMCA. Since it passed twelve years ago, the DMCA has become the weapon of choice for US companies seeking to fairly protect their property as well as institutions attempting to unfairly silence criticism by alleging infringement. For several years now, a draft treaty that would regulate copyright internationally has been making the rounds. ACTA—the Anti-Counterfeiting

NVIDIA ION 2 Preview, Optimus Enabled
Ever since NVIDIA's original ION chipset proved it was possible to pair Intel's low-power Atom processor to a relatively powerful graphics core and attain acceptable multimedia performance, the market has been curious as to what NVIDIA's Ion 2 Next-Generation Ion product might offer. This has also been a topic of some discussion between Intel, NVIDIA, and the FTC. Because Intel's next-generation Atom platform is a system-on-chip (SoC), NVIDIA had to adjust its own plans for NG-Ion.NVIDIA ION 2 Preview, Optimus

AMD 890GX SB850 Chipset Debut: Phenom II X6 Ready
It has been quite a while since AMD launched a new high-end desktop chipset. The 790FX has been riding high at the top of AMD's line-up for over two years now. It has been paired to newer Southbridge chips and AMD did follow up with the 790GX about a year and half ago, but for all intents and purposes AMD's flagship desktop chipset has remained unchanged for what is equivalent to an eternity in Internet-years. Today, however, a new chipset will finally supplant the 790FX/GX at the top of AMD's line-up, the 890GX.

OCZ Vertex Limited Edition, SandForce Powered SSD Review
When we first took a look at OCZ's Vertex 2 Pro series SSD back in February, we noted that our evaluation was a product "preview" due to the fact that the product was still being finalized in many ways and wasn't yet available on the open market. Little did we know that exact product would never see the light of day in retail. In fact, the Vertex Limited Edition SSD that we're taking a look at here today, will only be available in a limited 5K unit batch release from OCZ. That's not to say that

OCZ Vertex Limited Edition, SandForce Powered SSD
There's an old cliche' that seems to ring true with respect to the onslaught of SSD technology we've been treated to in the market over the past year or so, "there's always another one coming." Solid State Drive technologies are advancing so quickly, that some manufacturers don't even get a chance to let the ink dry on product labeling before their engineering teams step up with yet another offering to productize. Such is the case with OCZ Technology, a company that is seemingly lining itself up

If the screenshot above looks at all familiar to you, then your system has been infected with a trojan called TrojanDownloader:Win32/Fakeinit. Microsoft describes this as a "fake scanner that informs the user that they need to pay money to register the software and remove these non-existent threats," but that's not all it does. It also terminates certain processes, alters the registry to cut off access to the Task Manager (among other things), lowers your security settings, redirects your Web browser, and changes your background image to one of an ominious spyware warning.

We've seen this one ourselves and can tell you it's a particularly nasty strain designed to force you into submission, both by hampering your PC and hitting you with repeated pop-ups. You may also see this one masquerading under a different name, such as Internet Security 2010, though the main interface looks otherwise identical.

See here for an extensive list what this one does, as well as Microsoft's list of preventative measures.

Apogee USB 3.0 Drive Is The "Smallest USB 3.0 Device On The Planet"
USB 3.0 is continuing to flourish in a big way, and while it's notunexpected to see the big names (Seagate, Western Digital, etc.) pickup the protocol, you know things are really starting to heat up whenthe smaller ones do as well. Walton Chaintech has just introduced whatthey call the "smallest USB 3.0 device in the world," with that devicebeing the Apogee-branded Astro Drive Series A101.

The red and silver pendant is the smallest USB 3.0 thumb driveavailable for purchase, boasting maximum read speeds of 186MB/sec andwrite speeds of 130MB/sec. It's available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GBcapacities, and while we aren't quite sure what they mean by it, thecompany makes clear that this is "more than just a cold, emotionlesstech product." That said, we still have no idea how much money will berequired to pick up such a tiny, life-filled product.

The Smallest USB 3.0 Device in the World: the Stunning Launch of Walton Chaintech’s Astro Drive Series A101

The proliferation of large-capacity external devices means they are being utilized in increasingly frequent manners for the backup of large files and high quality videos. However, users often have a long wait when they transfer large files of several Gigabytes. The primary cause for this is that the USB 2.0 interface is limited by its transmission speed of 480 Mbps. Thus, USB 3.0 devices were developed that possess ten times the transmission speed of the previous interface, winning consumer admiration. In order to fulfill consumer demands, Walton Chaintech, a world-renowned memory and storage device manufacturer, has officially launched a product that supports USB 3.0 standards today; the Astro Drive Series A101. Not only is it fully compliant with all USB 3.0 specifications, it is also the smallest USB 3.0 product available currently. A combination of all of these factors, in addition to its dual color design in red and silver, makes this a highly functional product that fulfills a great deal of anticipation.

Seamless Integration into Next Generation Standards for External Devices

The new Walton Chaintech Astro Drive Series A101 thumb drive has complete support for USB 3.0 standards. The maximum read speed in actual testing was 186 MB/sec, and write speed reached 130 MB/sec. This is, at the very least, a six-fold increase in performance when compared to the 30 MB/sec and 20 MB/sec read and write speeds of USB 2.0 devices. This makes transferring large files and HD videos more effective. In addition, as it is completely compatible with USB 2.0 standards, there is more flexibility of use, as there is no need to worry about usage issues on prior motherboards.

At the same time, the Astro Drive Series A101 thumb drive comes in a variety of storage capacities, such as 32GB/64GB/128GB, in order to satisfy the user’s need for different data storage volumes. This allows you to choose the most suitable product according to your own budget and needs.

Petite Device with Dual Color Exterior Design in Red and Silver

Apart from its advances in transmission efficacy, the Astro Drive Series A101 thumb drive is also petite in size. The Astro Drive Series A101 is miniature in comparison to the 2.5-inch products sold by other competitors. It is more mobile than an iPod, and is currently the smallest USB 3.0 device on the market. This makes this device extremely convenient for consumers on the go.

In addition, the dual color exterior design in red and silver conveys high-tech qualities, while also adding a sense of trendiness with its flame-red contours. This makes the A101 more than just a cold, emotionless tech product. Instead, it is an exceptional product that encompasses both elements of fashion and quality. It is the best product for style-and-performance conscious consumers when it comes to the purchase of a high-speed USB 3.0 device.

Analyst Predicts New iPhone In June
If the cost of the iPhone and its corresponding service plan has deterred you from purchasing Apple's popular phone, you'll like this. Katy Huberty, a prominent analyst with Morgan Stanley, expects Apple to introduce a new iPhone in June that will be more economically friendly to its customers.

Huberty claims the cost of the iPhone hardware is the biggest barrier to greater iPhone adoption. The service plan is also a large barrier that's deterring adoption. In addition to her predictions that a new iPhone will have a lower total cost of ownership, Huberty is also claiming the new iPhone could include gesture-based functionality. "We expect Apple to launch new iPhones in June that offer both a lower total cost of ownership and new functionality, potentially including gesture-based technology," she wrote in a note to investors.

As you'll recall, Apple dropped the price on the iPhone 3G to $99 when it introduced the iPhone 3GS in 2009. However even with this lower price, the higher end (and more expensive) iPhone 3GS was still more popular among consumers.

The iPhone isn't the only Apple product that has people talking. Huberty also has a few predictions regarding Apple's iPad. More specifically, Huberty expects Apple to ship 6 million devices in the 2010 calendar year. This is significantly higher than Wall Street's average projections of 3 million to 4 million.

"We expect Apple to ship its first iPad and announce additional content deals in late March to better than expected demand," Huberty wrote. "We see the iPad targeting the sub-$800 consumer notebook market which equates to 30M annual units just in the US (120M globally)."

Windows Mobile 6.x Devices Will Not Get Windows Phone 7 Upgrades
Microsoft is tightening its control over upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices. As a result, Windows Mobile 6.x devices won't be upgradable to the newer OS. Even devices such as the recently announced HTC HD2 won't qualify for an upgrade.

At first glance, the HD2 meets Microsoft's criteria for a Windows Phone 7 device. It has a 1GHz Qualcomm processor, high-resolution capacitive touch display, 5-megapixel camera, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The problem is the phone has two too many buttons. You see, Microsoft has mandated that all Windows Phone 7 devices have just three hardware buttons. The HD2 has five.

These two extra buttons will prohibit the HD2 from being considered for Windows Phone 7. As Natasha Kwan, General Manager for Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business in the Asia-Pacific region put it, the HD2 “doesn’t qualify because it doesn’t have the three buttons.”

Microsoft isn't singling out the HD2 or HTC. Instead, the company is being very strict about the requirements for any Windows Phone 7 device. “Because we have very specific requirements for Windows Phone 7 Series the current phones we have right now will not be upgradable,” Kwan explained.

Because Microsoft hasn't revealed all of the requirements for Windows Phone 7 devices, the HD2 and other high-end phones may be missing other components as well. Tony Wilkinson, Business Operations Director for Microsoft Australia, said, “There are some hardware components that the HD doesn’t have.”

Microsoft is expected to reveal the complete requirements for Windows Phone 7 devices at the MIX developer conference in Las Vegas this month.
