Office 2010 Nearly Ready; Upgrade Offer Launched
In a press release, Microsoft announced that it's new Office 2010 will be ready for a Business Launch on May 12th followed by a general release sometime in June. Beta testers will still have use of Office 2010 until October 31, 2010. Although Office 2010 doesn\'t bring a radically different look or new file formats, as Office 2007 did, it introduces a number of changes, most significantly the addition of companion Office Web apps that work in a browser. Also, for the first time, Office will come in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Comments

NVIDIA Statement on Bad Drivers
Earlier we reported on the new WHQL NVIDIA drivers that could actually kill your CPU. We got an updated statement from NVIDIA's Bryan Del Rizzo this evening. And NVIDIA wants to know if you are having issues, let me know. We are still root causing the issue and reaching out to those customers who seem impacted by the driver. We want to make sure anybody who has not downloaded the driver does not do so from any other sites who still have the driver up, and for those that have downloaded it, we want to make sure they roll back to the previous driver located here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/driver_rollback.html If any of your readers reach out to you that are affected, please feel free to forward their contact info to me so our team can reach out to them directly. Newegg Selling Fake Intel CPUs
If you just put in an order for a new CPU from Newegg, you better watch out, reports of fake Intel Core i7-920 processors have just been confirmed by at least one of our forum members. Hit the link above for all the info and more pictures of the fake processor, heatsink and box. Another source is telling us that 300 counterfeit processors were purchased by Newegg from D&H Distributing and that the fakes were delivered last week in a shipment totaling 2000 pieces. It was also communicated to me that Newegg has now "discovered" all 300 counterfeit processors. UPDATE 03/05/2010 - 7:52PM CST: DBA Public Relations has contacted us with the following statement. "Newegg is aware of a shipping error that occurred with certain recent orders of the Intel Core i7-920 CPU. After investigating the issue internally it appears one of our long term partners mistakenly shipped a small number of demo boxes instead of functional units. Our customer service team has already begun proactively reaching out to the affected customers. In line with our commitment to ensure total customer satisfaction, we are doing everything in our power to resolve the issue as soon as possible and with the least amount of inconvenience to our customers." Demo boxes with misspellings? Uh, OK. That does not sound like Intel. Comments

MSI R5770 HAWK Radeon HD 5770 Review
Looking for a decent video card that has plenty of performance but won't break the bank? PC Perspective says the MSI R5770 HAWK Radeon HD 5770 fits the bill nicely. It is a neat card, it is an excellent price, and it pushes the limits of design for the highly competitive market that it resides in. While other manufacturers are introducing overclocked cards, many of these are using the reference design and cooling systems. MSI has taken a big step above nearly everyone else and produced a unique and outstanding offering for the $150 to $199 price range. Comments

Stolen PC Leads To Child Porn Arrest
When your laptop is stolen, normally it is a good idea to call the cops and I stress the word "normally." Now, if the laptop in question is packed full of kiddy porn it's probably a good idea to just let it go. A man who lost his computer in a home burglary has been arrested after the same laptop surfaced at a local pawn shop with several images of child pornography on its hard drive. Comments

Newegg Selling Fake Intel CPUs?
Forum user "Nix" reported this morning he bought an Intel Core i7 model 920 from Newegg earlier this week. When he got his CPU opened, he found out that it seems everything in the box is "fake"...including the box. You can read up on his experience here. We reached out to Nix and gave him a phone call this morning and I would have to say that it does in fact seem that he got a totally "fake" CPU from Newegg. We are looking more into this as of now and will report what we find.

NVIDIA 196.75 Drivers Can Kill Your GPU
It seems that NVIDIA has pulled its 196.75 drivers because of overheating issues. Apparently there has been a rash of complaints about dead, dying and overheating video cards. The problem seems to be the fan controller in the 196.75 drivers, no word from NVIDIA on the matter yet. The problem seems to be related to the fan controller, causing the fans to slow down, and even stop. This happening while the card is in use is a very bad thing indeed, and can cause poor performance (as the GPU tries to cool itself down by reducing power) and possibly even overheat your GPU to the point where the card stops working.
