New Tomb Raider game will only have online release

Is this another nail in the coffin of the retail boxed gaming industry, with digital distribution seemingly on the rise?

The new Tomb Raider game announced by Crystal Dynamics yesterday will not have a retail release model at all, Eidos has revealed. Instead, the game will only be available digitally through systems such as Steam and PSN - though no platforms have yet been confirmed.

The latest Tomb Raider won't even be a Tomb Raider game though, technically. Developer Crystal Dynamics, who took over from UK-based Core Design a few years back, are ditching the TR prefix in order to focus on the lady herself. The game will be titled simply as Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

NVIDIA GeForce driver 196.75 "kills video cards"

If you've recently updated your system to use NVIDIA's latest 196.75 WHQL GeForce driver, then you'll probably want to consider rolling back to a previous driver, as some users are reporting that issues with fan speed control are causing their graphics boards to fail. NVIDIA are currently investigating the problems, and have pulled the driver in question from their web site for the time being.

We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.com. Until we can verify and root cause this issue, we recommend that customers stay with, or return to 196.21 WHQL drivers. Release 196.75 drivers have been temporarily removed from our Web site in the meantime.

Inc. Gamers have the full story on the issues being experienced.

Crysis 2 - First official screenshots released

We're still waiting for a PC system that can entirely do the original Crysis games justice, but Crysis 2 is already on its way. How is it going to look? Crytek have just revealed the first two screen shots from the game, which is set to hit consoles as well as the PC.

Taking place in New York city, Crysis 2 brings highly vertical gameplay to the table, made possible with the Nanosuit 2, developed by Crynet Systems. The first of these images includes a Nanosuit-clad character in an all-too-familiar pose, with a backdrop of destruction as the city is laid to waste. The second features Crynet Ops infantry in combat with the Nanosuit 2 whilst the city crumbles down around them, for reasons that will be revealed in due time.

You can check out these screen shots for yourself at the official Crysis community MyCrysis.

BFG to manufacture ATI Radeon cards?

We love a good old-fashioned rumour on a Friday morning here at Elite Bastards, and here's one to get you thinking - Will BFG soon start manufacturing ATI graphics boards?

The rumor we are hearing today is that BFG is going RED! Totally unconfirmed, but given the history I have heard over the last few years...yes years...this does not sound implausible. I am waiting for a response from BFG's CEO, but none is forthcoming.

[H]ard|OCP have the speculation in question.
