Palm Opens Up to Developers
Palm, realizing that the difference between 85,000 apps in the App Store, 10,000 apps in the Android Marketplace, and 100 apps in the App Catalog may be a lot of Palm Pre sales, has decided to spur application development and approval in a much more open manner than, say, the iPhone App Store does.

As opposed to requiring submission to the App Catalog, along with a lengthy approval process, as with the App Store, Palm will allow developers to do self-certification, certifying that their app meets the Palm User Interface Guidelines and Palm Application Content Criteria. When submitted as such, developers will receive a unique URL they can use in any way they wish. Users who click on the URL will get the app, over-the-air.

Why not just allow developers to use their own URL? Well, of course, there's an obvious reason.آ Consumers who download via that URL are monetized (for Palm). There's a 70/30 split, developer to Palm, for webOS apps.

If instead the developer wants to be in the App Catalog, Palm will charge them $50 for every application listed, and the company must approve the applications, naturally. Developers will also be able to bid for priority placement in the catalog using an auction system.

Palm also stated on Monday that they will waive the $99 developer account fee for developers creating open-source apps.

IS my system good enough?

OKOK.....last year I was laid off. I had just finished my rig prior to me being let go. I found a job but the first year required me to be out of town the first year. Now that part is over I have not paid much attention to what all is out there. As I look around and see the new i7's. I'm wondering how long I will be able to get away with what I have.

Here is the rig:

Case: Gigabyte Aroura 3D(now called SUMO)

Enermax 650 watt PS

MB: Asus Strkier Extreme

Proc: e8500

RAM: Corsair XMS2 1066 Dominator(4gigs)

Video: Two Gigabyte 8800GTX 640 MB(running sli) and one 8500 designated for physx

HD: Two 36 Gig Raptors and one 150 gig raptor

Optical: one Sony and one Plextor

6 in one card reader

Windows Vista Home Premium is the OS.

Don't get me wrong.....I think she is lean and mean....but how much longer could I push this to get my money's worth?

Corsair Launches TX950W PSU

Corsair launches 950 Watt power supply for gamers and PC enthusiasts

Corsair TX950W raises the bar for high-quality, affordable power supplies, thanks to massive 78A +12V rail, NVIDIA SLI and ATI Crossfire support and 80 PLUS Bronze certification

FREMONT, Calif., Oct. 6, 2009 -آ Corsair, a worldwide leader in high performance memory and computer products, today announced the launch of the Corsair TX950W power supply unit (PSU), the latest addition to the award-winning TX-series of high-quality PSUs.

The TX950W has been designed to meet the demanding requirements of PC enthusiasts, creative professionals and gamers. The TX950W is built using industrial-grade components to ensure clean and stable voltages, and has been qualified to operate at 100% load at an ambient temperature of 50آ°C for unmatched reliability.

The Corsair TX950W boasts a dedicated +12V rail capable of delivering 78A (936W), which equates to 98.5% of the PSU’s total power output. This makes it ideal for extreme, multi-GPU gaming systems using the latest multi-core CPUs, such as Intel Core i5 and Core i7-series, all of which require high amounts of stable power at 12V.

"Corsair’s TX650W, TX750W, and TX850W PSUs have dominated the market by offering superior performance and quality at affordable prices," said Jim Carlton, Vice President of Marketing at Corsair. "The TX950W raises the bar even higher, thanks to 80 PLUS Bronze efficiency, low noise, and output that’s capable of reliably powering even the most demanding Dream PCs."

Thanks to the 80 PLUS Bronze certification, which guarantees at least 85% energy efficiency at typical load levels, the TX950W produces minimal waste heat and is extremely quiet. The high-quality 140mm cooling fan remains at its minimum speed until approximately 65% of the PSU’s total load. Six 6+2-pin PCI-E cables are provided and the TX950W has been thoroughly tested for compatibility with NVIDIA SLI and ATI Crossfire solutions. The TX950W also boasts extra-long cables to support full-tower chassis.

The Corsair TX950W is available immediately from retailers and e-tailers, and is backed by a five-year warranty and comprehensive customer support via telephone, email, forum and the Tech Support Express helpdesk.

My half new rig

Hi guys! I recently upgraded the cpu, motherboard and ram on my computer which previously had an AMD Athlon X2 4800+ @ 2.81Ghz, an Asus A8N-SLI Premium, and 2GB Corsair DDR-400.

My new specs are the following:

AMD Phenom II 955 BE @ 3.2Ghz (stock)

Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P

4GB Cosair DDR2-1066

eVga 8800GTX (Thinking of upgrading to a 5870 at some point).

Corsair 750W PS

Coolermaster Cosmos S

I am temporarily using the stock AMD heatsink, since I had to take apart my Swiftech waterblock to switch the 939 plate to the AM2 one. I'm currently at college taking animation, so I have been really busy with assignments since September, but I'm hoping to get the watercooling back up and running very soon. Then it'll be time for some overclockin' fun again!

I'll keep you updated, though it may be a little time between posts.

What are some of the best external eSATA card?

Lately I have been having problem with my computer kept freezing. It would take about an hour or so and then the computer would not respond. Later on I found out that it has something to do with the Seagate eSATA card that came with the Seagate external drive. I connect the same external drive through USB and it works fine. Is there a way to fix this existing card or troubleshooting it more? My second question is, if this is in fact the fault of the eSATA card, what are some the better eSATA cards out there?

Bluetooth Headphones

Hey all,

I wanted to ask the experts. I need a set of bluetooth headphones to work with my Ipod touch os 3.0. The wired headphones get tangeled up while I am working in customers homes and end up ripping out of my ear or worse breaking all together (I've gone through two standard sets and a set of skull candy's already). I don't necesarily need the top of the line set, though if there is a minimal price difference I would go for it. I want a set that sounds good, is light weight, and has a decent battery life. Please help with suggestions, thanks
