NEC readies the white LED backlit EA222WMe monitor
Keeping green in trend, NEC is planning to introduce the Multisync EA222WMe, its first LCD monitor to feature a white LED backlight, by the end of this year. Seen below, the upcoming 22-inch display has a brightness of 250 cd/m2, DVI and DisplayPort connectivity, a power consumption that's up to 50% lower than that of LCDs with CCFL backlights, and also a One Touch Eco Button that will cut power requirements even more.
According to NEC, the Multisync EA222WMe will start hitting stores in December in two colors - black and white with a silver front frame. No word on pricing though.

Pentium E2200, Celeron E1400 prepped for retirement
Intel has this week revealed that two more 65nm processors have been scheduled for discontinuance, the 2.2 GHz Pentium E2200 and 2 GHz Celeron E1400.
As decided by their maker, the two LGA 775 dual-core processors will be available for order until January 8, 2010, and will continue shipping until April 10 (boxed version) and September 10 (tray), 2010. The E2200 is currently selling for $64, while the E1400 costs $43.

Point of View unveils the ION-based Mobii FamilyPC
Point of View has now announced a new nettop based on the Nvidia ION platform, the Mobii FamilyPC. The new PC comes in a black or white, measures 322 x 200 x 183 mm, and features a 1.6 GHz Atom 230 (single-core) or 330 (dual-core), 1/2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, GeForce 9400 integrated graphics, and a DVD 8x or Blu-Ray drive.
The Mobii FamilyPC also comes with Gigabit Ethernet, D-Sub, DVI and HDMI outputs, eight USB 2.0 ports, and is backed by a two-year warranty. Point of View hasn't revealed the mini PC's pricing scheme.

Gmail Labs gets Google Voice player
Google's wannabe one-stop communication service, Google Voice makes it so that, when a user receives voicemail on his/her unique number, a notification is sent to the Gmail inbox. That mail contains the name of the person who called and left the message, a transcript of the voicemail and a link to play the message.
Initially, the "Play message" link provided in the notification mail took the user to another page where the voicemail could be played but thanks to a new Gmail Labs feature, as of yesterday, the message can run right within Gmail.
To enable the Google Voice player in Gmail simply visit the Labs tab under Settings and remember, the function is still in the works so if you have trouble with it be sure to give feedback to its devs.

Offering more easy-to-carry portable storage, PEAKHARDWARE has recently introduced a new model to its PEAK II line-up of flash drives, one boasting 64GB of storage space. Seen below, the fresh flashy drive weights just about 15 grams, has a shock-resistant dual-layer metal and plastic housing, a USB 2.0/1.1 interface and Windows ReadyBoost support.
The 64GB PEAK II Xtreme2 provides maximum read and write speeds of 31 and 12 MB/s, respectively, and should already be hitting stores.

Green House serves up some new ExpressCard solid state drives
Green House has now let loose some more storage solutions for on the go, in the form of SLC (single-level cell) and MLC (multi-level cell) ExpressCard SSDs. The new NAND drives have a MTBF of about 650,000 hours, both dynamic and static wear-leveling functions, are backed by a one-year warranty and will deliver read/write speeds of up to 120/70 MB/s (SLC models) and 120/30 MB/s (MLC).
Green House is selling the 16 and 32B SLC ExpressCard SSDs for $323 and $573, and the 16, 32 and 64GB MLC drives for $128, $160 and $269, respectively.

Cooler Master intros 850W and 1000W Silent Pro M PSUs
Cooler Master has this week added two more, high-wattage models to its Silent Pro M line-up of modular power supplies - the M850 and M1000. Pumping 850W and 1000W of raw powa', the units measure 150 (W) x 86 (H) x 165 (L) mm, are compliant with the ATX 12V V 2.3 and EPS 12V V2.92 standards, are 80Plus Bronze certified (85% typical efficiency), and a MTBF (mean time before failure) of over 100,000 hours.
The PSUs each have a single 12V rail (66A for the M850, 80M for the M1000) and a 135mm silent fan, and are paired up with a five-year warranty. The units should become available soon.

Toshiba delivers new, single-platter 1.8-inch hard drives
Toshiba's storage offer just got bigger as the Japanese company has rolled out a new family of 1.8-inch hard drives aimed at devices like portable media players and digital video cameras. Using just one platter, the fresh 60, 80, 120 and 160GB spinners have a PATA interface, a working speed of 4,200 RPM, a 15ms average seek time, and maximum sound output of 15dB.
The top of the line 160GB MK1634GAL model is already shipping, while its lower-capacity brothers are set to enter mass production late this month.

Samsung reveals the X170 ultra-portable
In addition to the X120, X420 and X520, Samsung Electronics will be rolling out one more Intel-based ultra-portable called X170. Seen below, the upcoming portable PC is just 25.4mm thick, features a 11.6-inch 16:9 LCD screen, a Core 2 Duo (CULV) processor, and a 6-cell battery providing up to 9 hours of operation.
The undated/unpriced X170 also comes with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, a 3-in-1 card reader, and a 1.3 megapixel camera.

Adobe gets more protective with Flash Access 2.0
IBC 2009 kicked off (in conference mode) today in Amsterdam and Adobe didn't waste any time to make a few announcements, including that regarding the Flash Access 2.0 content protection solution. Previously known as Adobe Flash Media Rights Management Server, Flash Access 2.0 is going to be a key component of the Flash platform which will enables the distribution and monetization of premium content.
"As the No. 1 software for delivering video on the Web, the Adobe Flash Platform has enabled millions of users to enjoy high-quality content," said Jim Guerard, vice president and general manager of Dynamic Media at Adobe. "With Adobe Flash Access 2.0, media publishers can rely on robust protection for premium content to support new, emerging business models for rich, interactive online experiences."
Flash Access 2.0 supports distribution of H.264 content as well as the FLV file format via multiple mechanisms - progressive download, streaming and download for local playback, it makes use of industry-standard cryptography, and enables content providers to specify requirements for protection of analog and digital outputs.
Adobe plans to introduce Flash Access 2.0 in the first half of 2010.
