The Coming Shift In Benchmarks And What It Means To Your Gaming Experience
I want all of you to take a moment to share your thoughts with us on this subject. Kyle has weighed in with our stance on the current state of benchmarks and what impact, if any, they have on your gaming experience. This is something that could have a dramatic impact on the way reviews in the industry are done and I'm sure you guys will want to voice your opinion on the matter.

It is sad to think that we NEED benchmark numbers to write video card and game performance reviews. While I understand that video card reviews with zero framerate data is something far left of where the industry is at now, it is interesting to see video card reviewers basically tell us that they cannot do their jobs without these tools. Framerate is not the gaming experience.

Facebook Calls Detention In Brazil Over Whatsapp 'Extreme'
Refusing to help the government in the U.S. is one thing. Doing that in countries like Brazil will just get the vice president of your company arrested for failing to cooperate with court orders.

Facebook Inc called the detention of its vice president for Latin America on Tuesday an "extreme and disproportionate measure" stemming from a case in Brazil involving its messaging service Whatsapp, which operates separately from the Facebook platform. Earlier in the day police and court officials in Sergipe state announced the detention of Diego Dzodan in Sao Paulo state after the company failed to cooperate with judicial orders in a drug trafficking investigation.

The Forza Franchise Debuts On Windows 10 PCs For Free
I like Microsoft's decision to make a lot of its upcoming games free on Windows 10 PCs. Whether it is a free PC copy with an Xbox One game purchase or, as in this case, simply free to Windows 10 owners, this is good marketing on Microsoft's part.

Arriving on the Windows Store this spring and available for free, Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is a powerful demonstration of what the ForzaTech™ engine can do when unleashed by DirectX 12 at resolutions up to 4K. Developed by Turn 10 Studios, Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is the first step in Microsoft's commitment to creating amazing Forza experiences for Windows 10 PC gamers.

Study: Craigslist Catches Barely Half of Scam Listings
How can this be? Are these guys trying to say that there are scammers on Craigslist? I find that very hard to believe.

Rental scams on Craigslist and similar sites are not new, but this is the first systematic, empirical study of these scams. McCoy and his team analyzed more than 2 million rental listings on Craigslist over a five-month period to gain an end-to-end understanding of how such scams are structured and which strategies may undermine them. McCoy and his collaborators detected and analyzed about 29,000 fraudulent listings in 20 major cities, ultimately mapping the listings into seven distinct scam categories, most of which involved credit card payments.

Microsoft Hints At Future Xbox Hardware Upgrades
If these hints dropped by Xbox chief Phil Spencer are being interpreted correctly, we could be seeing upgraded / upgradeable Xbox hardware in the near future.

"When you look at the console space, I believe we will see more hardware innovation in the console space than we've ever seen," said Spencer. "You'll actually see us come out with new hardware capability during a generation allowing the same games to run backward and forward compatible because we have a Universal Windows Application running on top of the Universal Windows Platform that allows us to focus more and more on hardware innovation without invalidating the games that run on that platform."

Thieves Nab IRS PINs To Hijack Tax Refunds
You know that IRS tool that is supposed to protect identity theft victims? Guess what? It's vulnerable to identity thieves.

The IRS's preferred method of protecting tax refund victims from getting hit two years in a row — the Identity Protection (IP) PIN — has already been mailed to some 2.7 million tax ID theft victims. The six-digit PIN must be supplied on the following year's tax application before the IRS will accept the return as valid. As I've noted in several stories here, the trouble with this approach is that the IRS allows IP PIN recipients to retrieve their PIN via the agency's Web site.
