J.J. Abrams: Gay Characters Coming To Star Wars
Meanwhile, there will never be a significant Asian character despite the fact that Jedi are based on samurai and Shaolin monks.

By Abrams' logic, the sprawling Star Wars universe couldn't possibly exist without a gay populace—even if we haven't seen a single character identified as gay thus far. "I would love it," he said. "To me, the fun of Star Wars is the glory of possibility. So it seems insanely narrow-minded and counterintuitive to say that there wouldn't be a homosexual character in that world."

Daredevil Season 2 Episode 1 Review
The new season of Daredevil is still three weeks away, but those of you who want to know what goes down in the premiere can check this article out.

Yes, The Punisher's officially arrived and the premiere episode gets right into it. A very strong start to what looks to be an action-packed, drama-filled season of excitement. In the wake of Wilson Fisk's arrested, several gangs have tried to muscle in and fill the void. The Cartel. Bikers. The Irish mob. Nature abhors a vacuum. There's territory to claim. And that idea alone makes for a good starting point.

Pokemon 20th Anniversary
Has it really been 20 years since Pokemon debuted? 1996 feels like it was yesterday. I never really got into Pokemon, but which is your favorite title? I am seeing Gold and Silver on a lot of lists.

Pokemon fans have multiple reasons to celebrate this weekend, which marks the 20th anniversary of the Nintendo franchise. The online and in-person festivities begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. EST, when Pokemon's Twitch channel will begin broadcasting discussions, gameplay footage, and interviews. It will switch over to animated content at 6 p.m., featuring movies, TV episodes, and specials for 24 hours straight. In-person events will complement the virtual celebration at Nintendo locations and toy stores around the country.

Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs Probably Won't Be Cracked For A While
Well, that's what this writer thinks based on the fact that DVDFab won't decrypt or circumvent AACS 2.0. I say that it'll be cracked within weeks.

The new Ultra HD Blu-ray standard, however, takes it up a notch. AACS 2.0 has a "basic" version that sounds quite similar to existing AACS, but also an "enhanced" version of DRM that requires the playback device to download the decryption key from the Internet. There might still be a hole in the AACS 2.0 crypto scheme that allows for UHD discs to be ripped, but presumably it'll be a lot tougher than its predecessors.

IBM Aptiva Upgrade Features 118 GB Floppy Disk
This was technically linked to yesterday, but since the Aptiva was my first computer (and still brings a tear to my eye), I will give this build its own post. He even updated the floppy drive so you can use it for more than text files.

New Zelda And NX Launch Rumored For Holidays
Has Nintendo finally created a worthy console? We may find out this holiday. Here's hoping that the NX version of Zelda will actually flaunt the new capabilities of the console better than Twilight Princess on the Wii did.

Earlier this week, a NeoGAF user posted information obtained from a verified-source regarding Nintendo's 3DS and NX plans. …the source said The Legend of Zelda would be out this holiday 2016 for NX and "will either launch day and date with the Wii U version," or after the NX holiday launch window.

SSD Reliability In The Real World
There is a new paper out that offers insight into how SSDs fare. One major conclusion is that age has a much higher effect on an SSD than usage.

Two standout conclusions from the study. First, that MLC drives are as reliable as the more costly SLC "enterprise" drives. This mirrors hard drive experience, where consumer SATA drives have been found to be as reliable as expensive SAS and Fibre Channel drives. The paper's second major conclusion, that age, not use, correlates with increasing error rates, means that over-provisioning for fear of flash wearout is not needed. None of the drives in the study came anywhere near their write limits, even the 3,000 writes specified for the MLC drives.

MacBook Selfie Sticks
I hear that there is a fine line between art and stupidity.

These MacBook Selfie Sticks aren't for sale. The photo series is an art piece credited to its creators, Moises, John Yuyi and Tom Galle, who have built technology-centered art pieces before. The stick itself looks much larger than any standard selfie stick, most likely to make up for the 2-pound Apple laptop. It looks like you need to hold it with two hands, though, removing the convenience of a selfie stick to begin with. Plus, there's no confirmation that it even takes pictures there's no confirmation that it even takes pictures.

Uncharted 4 Story Changed "100 Percent" After New Directors Came On
If the story ends up sucking, you'll know exactly who to blame—Naughty Dog reportedly threw out eight months of work after Druckmann and Straley replaced the original directors. The good news is that these two were responsible for not only Uncharted and its sequel, but also The Last of Us.

The game was originally in development under the direction of Amy Hennig and Justin Richmond, but they left the studio in early 2014. Though it was not confirmed, reports indicated Hennig was allegedly "forced out" by Druckmann and Straley, a point that the studio has denied.

Apple Launching Smaller iPad Pro, Not Air 3
Contrary to previous rumors, we will be seeing a new iPad Pro instead of a successor to the Air. This version will measure around 3 inches smaller and is expected to be priced similarly to the non-Pro line.

The new 9.7-inch iPad Pro will debut at Apple's Tuesday, March 15th event and begin shipping as soon as March 18th, we previously reported. The smaller iPad Pro will have nearly identical features and specifications as the bigger model, bringing along the A9X processor and RAM upgrades from the 12.9-inch model. It will also include the 12.9-inch model's updated display technology to support the Apple Pencil.

World's First Analog Mechanical Keyboard
Here is a look at a very special mechanical keyboard that should be useful for driving games and other genres that demand higher degrees of control.

Analog inputs can send a variable signal, which changes depending on how far or hard something is pressed. Think of the analog sticks on your Xbox or PlayStation controller. They're called that, because they transmit an analog signal, which changes based on how far in any direction you move it. Now imagine that sort of sensitivity on a keyboard switch.

Sony Patent Points To Finger-Tracking Controller
In what may be reminiscent of an old Nintendo accessory, Sony appears to be cooking up an alternate method of control for PlayStation VR.

PlayStation VR already has a hand-tracking solution, of course, in the form of the PlayStation Move controllers that were first released for the PlayStation 3 in 2010. But this glove offers a bit more functionality than those handheld wands, including sensors that can "identify a flex of at least one finger portion," contact sensors that can detect when you touch a thumb to another fingertip, and sensors that measure the user's "finger position pose" (which can then be rendered on the screen).

Microsoft's Plan To Port Android Apps To Windows Is Dead
Project Astoria's demise was rumored months ago, and now it is official. Microsoft has decided that it is no longer necessary due to other options for developers to make cross-platform apps.

This announcement comes just one day after Microsoft agreed to acquire Xamarin, a startup that lets developers write apps in a single programming language and then customize the software for any major smartphone platform. Instead of waiting for more progress on Astoria, Microsoft says developers should now look into using its open-source iOS migration tool, internally called Project Islandwood, or turn to Xamarin's products for making cross-platform apps.
