Cease and Desist Letters Issued Over Asetek Cooler Design
Asetek has sent cease and desist letters to AMD and Gigabyte related to an injunction the company won against Cooler Master regarding liquid cooler designs. Asetek won the ruling for coolers that incorporate a cooling pump and a cold plate in a single unit. The company was receiving a 14.5% royalty from sales on Cooler Master products that infringed on the patent, and it now appears that the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X and Gigabyte GTX 900 Waterforce Series also utilize the infringing technology. Asetek is currently evaluating other GPUs from Gigabyte to determine if they also contain the infringed upon design.
