Outlook Bug Discovered with Serious Security Implications
If you use Microsoft Outlook to manage your email, make sure it is updated to the latest version. Earlier this month security researcher Haifei Li reported an Outlook bug named BadWinmail to Microsoft and this issue could be exploited to compromise a machine without end-user interaction.
The issue revolves around Windows Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) system, which is used for objects embedded in Office documents, including Outlook emails, and Flash. Due to a flaw with how Outlook sandboxes embedded Flash, it is possible for malicious Flash code to be executed and use Flash vulnerabilities to install other pieces of malware on a user's computer. Because Outlook will use OLE to run the embedded code when viewing or even previewing an email, there is little the end-user has to do to be attacked. It is even possible for the end-user to do nothing but have Outlook open, if it is set to preview the most recent email, and it happens to be carrying the malicious code.
While this is a serious issue, Microsoft has already patched it, so if you update Outlook to a version newer than December 8, you should have the fix.

Batman: Arkham Knight Receives New Patch
Remember Batman: Arkham Knight, the game that was pulled after launch due to crippling issues on the PC and that you could get Steam refunds for? Since it went back on sale it has received patches to improve performance and other issues, and it is receiving at least one more before year's end.
This new patch does not include many performance and optimization fixes, but it does have some. The heavier rain from the beginning of the game has been returned, the missing rain effects on playable character skins have been fixed, frame time issues for some monitors have been addressed, and there have been some optimizations for certain hardware combinations. Most of the changelog addresses other gameplay issues, such as graphical corruption after Alt-Tabbing, KB/M control issues, and makes the Classic Harley Quinn skin and Arkham Knight character playable in some challenges and story packs. The patch comes in at 538 MB and naturally Steam will automatically download it for you, if you have the option enabled.

Computers Can Track Emotions With Mouse Movements
For any number of reasons, chances are we have all gotten upset by something while we are at our computers. Thanks to researchers at Brigham Young University, computers can now determine your emotional state by following your mouse movements.
The researchers discovered that there is a link between our mouse movements and our emotional states, with negative emotions being associated with slower movements. This includes when you are frustrated. Being upset of confused, however, makes our movements more jagged and sudden.
While there can definitely be many applications for this work, the researchers see it potentially being used to identify when a website experience turns bad. With this information, a web designer knows where to rework a site to make it easier to use. Potentially the research could also be applied to mobile devices that rely on touchscreens for interaction.

Microsoft Continues to Push Windows 10 Upgrades
Microsoft is making some changes to how it is pushing its free upgrade to Windows 10 for users of Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 operating systems. The company is supposedly reversing Windows 7 and 8 user settings that kept the Windows 10 upgrade notification at bay, meaning that the pop up now displays for users even if they attempt to use third-party applications to block it. Users who end up clicking on the free upgrade option are also noticing that the ability to start the download now and upgrade later is gone, with the only options usually being to “Upgrade now” and “Upgrade tonight.” Some users are even noticing that the only option is to “Upgrade now.” In a last ditch effort to get users to upgrade to Windows 10, Microsoft is changing the status of the upgrade from optional to recommended, meaning that Windows users that have Windows Update set to automatically install recommended updates will receive Windows 10 without much notice.
Overall, the push that Microsoft is making for users to upgrade to its latest Windows operating system seems quite severe.

AMD Zen Architecture to Have Multiple Generations Over 3-5 Years
Since it was first unveiled in May, with rumors leaking before it, AMD's upcoming Zen CPU architecture has been of great interest to many. Based on what has come out about it, this architecture should be significantly better than the company's current offerings, and potentially it could lead to a much-needed turnaround. Based on recent comments from AMD's CEO, Lisa Su, the company is confident enough to be planning on multiple Zen generations for years to come.
At the 19th Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference it was stated that "Zen+" and "Zen follow ons" will be on the roadmap for three to five years. As the Zen architecture has been designed from scratch, which is a multi-year process, it is not surprising that it will serve as a broad platform for multiple years. We can certainly expect to find it entering devices from laptops and mainstream desktops to high-end desktops and enterprise machines.
