Wi-Fi 'Allergies': Is Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity Real?
How many of you believe that electromagnetic hypersensitivity is really causing people to get sick? How many of you think that it is all in your head?

"People who say they have EHS are clearly ill," said Dr. James Rubin, a senior lecturer in psychology at King's College London, who has researched EHS and was the author of that review. "But the science suggests that it isn't [electromagnetic signaling] that is causing the illness," Rubin told Live Science in an email.

What Is Antimatter? Why It Does Matter?!
Does antimatter even matter? Why does it matter? Is it okay to be pro antimatter? Anti antimatter?

If it matters… it's matter, but if you're antimatter I guess you just don't care about anything anymore. Matter is everything around us. It's you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere! Even the land, and the ship! Matter is considered every physical substance in the universe; if it has mass, it's matter. But then… there's this other thing called antimatter.

Courts Expand Class-Action Lawsuit Against Uber
More bad news from the courts today for Uber. How much more remains to be seen as the flood gates are now wide open for potential plaintiffs.

Many more Uber drivers in California can participate in a class action against the ride service over their employment status, a U.S. judge ruled on Wednesday, even if they did not opt out of an arbitration clause in their contracts. Drivers sued Uber in San Francisco federal court, contending they are employees and entitled to reimbursement for expenses, including gas and vehicle maintenance. The drivers currently pay those costs themselves.

Comcast CEO: "The More You Use, The More You Pay"
Dear freeloading Comcast customers, the more internet you use, the more you have to pay. Duh.

"If you turn on the air conditioning at 60 versus 72, you consume more electricity," he said. "The same is true for [data] usage, so I think the same for a wireless device — the more bits you use, the more you pay."

The problem with the electricity analogy above is that your electricity bill is entirely based on usage. You only pay for what you use. Broadband and cable providers charge you a monthly fee even if you don't use the service all month. On top of that, now they want to double dip you for exceeding your ridiculously small data cap.

Google Wants To Use Algorithms To Censor The Internet For Hate Speech
What's with all the crazy algorithm talk lately? Maybe we can use algorithms to search out algorithms and put an end to algorithms altogether.

"It's our responsibility to demonstrate that stability and free expression go hand in hand," he writes. "We should build tools to help de-escalate tensions on social media—sort of like spell-checkers, but for hate and harassment."

"We have teams around the world actively investigating reports of rule violations, and they work with law enforcement entities around the world when appropriate."

When Can Quantum Annealing Win?
The big brains at Google announced a breakthrough in the field of quantum computing yesterday. According to this blog post, the search giant thinks it has discovered a quantum algorithm that is one hundred million times faster than conventional processes.

We found that for problem instances involving nearly 1000 binary variables, quantum annealing significantly outperforms its classical counterpart, simulated annealing. It is more than 108 times faster than simulated annealing running on a single core. We also compared the quantum hardware to another algorithm called Quantum Monte Carlo. This is a method designed to emulate the behavior of quantum systems, but it runs on conventional processors. While the scaling with size between these two methods is comparable, they are again separated by a large factor sometimes as high as 108.

Australian Police Raid Sydney Home Of Reported Bitcoin Creator
Yesterday this guy was outed by Wired as the possible creator of bitcoin. Today his property is being raided by authorities.

More than a dozen federal police officers entered a house registered on the electoral roll to Craig Steven Wright, whom Wired outed as the likely real identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous figure that first released bitcoin's code in 2009. Locksmiths broke open the door of the property, in a suburb on Sydney's north shore. When asked what they were doing, one officer told a Reuters reporter they were "clearing the house".
