AMD Athlon X4 880K Details Leak
Details surrounding the Athlon X4 880K from AMD, which has yet to be officially announced by the chipmaker, have been leaked by motherboard manufacturer Biostar as part of a compatibility listing. The AMD Athlon X4 880K is based on the Kaveri architecture, boasts a 4.0GHz base clock, offers 4MB of cache, and features two cores with four threads. At this point in time, the turbo clock of the Athlon X4 880K is unknown, but with a TDP of 95W, hopefully it will be something that can impress consumers enough to purchase the chip that is simply an APU with the graphics portion disabled.
Pricing and release date data concerning the Athlon X4 880K have not yet been revealed by AMD.

CRYORIG Announces C7 CPU Cooler
CRYORIG Announces C7 CPU Cooler
Originally revealed at Computex 2015, the C7 is the latest CPU cooler from CRYORIG. The C7 measures just 47mm tall, "2mm taller than the Intel Stock Heatsink," while offering better cooling and lower noise than stock coolers. The cooler has four heatpipes with an included 92mm PWM fan and CRYORIG's proprietary Quad Inlet System. It was designed to comply with the Intel/AMD CPU Keep Out Zone, making it a zero interference cooler and a good choice for small form factor systems.

Lian Li Announces PC-Q21 Case
Lian Li has announced the PC-Q21 chassis, a mini tower designed for small form factor systems using a Mini-ITX motherboard. The PC-Q21 provides plenty of options for installing components despite its small stature. A slot loaded optical drive can be installed, providing disk support without the full size of a 5.25" drive. A bottom hard drive rack can hold two 2.5" drives or be swapped out for a single 3.5" drive, 120mm fan, or additional space for a lengthy graphics card. The PC-Q21 will be available sometime this month at an MSRP of $74.99.

Bethesda Reveals Plans for Fallout 4 Free Updates, Creation Kit, and Season Pass
Bethesda Reveals Plans for Fallout 4 Free Updates, Creation Kit, and Season Pass
Just about two months remain for us to get our hands on Fallout 4, with many people no doubt planning how they'll spend their time in the wasteland around Boston. Bethesda is keeping plenty of information about the game under wraps, but did reveal some of it today. For starters, a whole bunch of free updates are planned for Fallout 4 to expand what's already in the game. Bethesda mentioned how Skyrim received free updates adding in more kill cams, mounted combat, legendary mode, and others, and plans to do the same types of things for Fallout 4. Those are all in addition to patches, bug fixes, and tweaks, which is just good to have.
The new Creation Kit is expected to arrive early next year on PC, allowing modders to really delve the depths of Fallout 4 with new content. Given the sheer variety of content created for past Bethesda games, expect everything you can possibly think of and beyond with mods. The mods will transistion into the Xbox One version of Fallout 4 after PC, with the PlayStation 4 receiving them after that.
In addition to the free ways to expand your game, Bethesda is planning its first ever Season Pass for Fallout 4. The Season Pass is priced at $30, much like others, and will include all the DLC Bethesda has planned for the game. Right now there's no information on what to expect for Fallout 4, but Bethesda did say the DLC will arrive sometime early next year. Presumably after the Creation Kit, so hopefully that information is known not long after launch.
Fallout 4 arrives November 10 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The middle of another week is upon us, with several items to help get you through the day. There is another look at the ECS LIVA X2 Mini PC, a potentially perfect candidate for those wanting a small yet robust HTPC. The ADATA XPG SX930 240GB SSD gets tested to see how this JMicron controller-equipped, 560MB/s read and 460MB/s write speeds drive works in a system. We have a review on the Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 Memory Airflow Kit, which features the Vengeance LPX heatspreaders and two Vengeance Airflow fans to keep things from getting toasty when overclocking. Wrapping things up is a look at the Grado SR225e headphones, a simple looking model that delivers some exceptional sound.

New Techniques Developed for Rendering Granular Materials
Some things are harder to for computers to render than others, because of the physics involved with making the resulting image realistic. Granular materials are an example of this because the light can be affected by each grain it hits, which adds up when there are millions of grains. To accelerate the process, researchers at Karlsruher Institut für Technologie have developed a new process that chooses the right technique based on scale involved.
For smaller scales, when only a few grains are involved, the classical approach of using path tracing for the light can be used. At larger scales this method would require hundreds to thousands of processor hours. Instead, the process changes to use volumetric path tracing, like that used to render clouds or fog. It turns out these methods can accurately represent light passing through granular materials, and can be quite efficient at doing so. Diffusion approximation can also be applied for when the grains are bright and strongly reflective, like with snow.
Compared to current methods, this new approach can be ten to several hundreds of times faster, depending on the material, without compromising image quality.
