IRS says cyberattacks more extensive than previously thought

The IRS said in late May the tax return information of about 114,000 U.S. taxpayers had been illegally accessed by cyber criminals over the preceding four months, with another 111,000 unsuccessful attempts made. A new review has identified 220,000 additional incidents where data was breached, the tax collection agency said.

Lockdown lifted at U.S. nuke site after sniffer-dog false alarm
No explosive residue or device was found on the truck after a search by law enforcement, the Savannah River Site said in a statement on its Facebook page. The dog had barked at a truck that services vending machines, said an official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The facility, which was put in lockdown for a "potential security event" following the alarm, purifies highly enriched uranium and is part of the DoE's nuclear arm.

Planned Parenthood seeks injunction against Florida health agency

The legal move filed in circuit court in Tallahassee came after Florida Republican Governor Rick Scott ordered a probe last month of the state's 16 Planned Parenthood locations, resulting in three clinics being cited on Aug. 5 for illegally performing abortions in the second trimester. Planned Parenthood said the abortions in question were first-trimester abortions and that the state appeared to have arbitrarily shortened its measurement of the first trimester.

The Trigana Air plane went down Sunday in bad weather during a short flight from the capital of Papua province to a remote settlement in the mountains. "The plane has crashed, it is completely destroyed," search and rescue chief Bambang Soelistyo said of the ATR 42-300 after rescue teams reached the site at 9:30 am (0030 GMT).

Treacherous terrain hampers rescue efforts for crashed Indonesian plane
INDONESIA MISSING PLANEBy Hidayat Setiaji and Fergus Jensen JAKARTA (Reuters) - Treacherous terrain in Indonesia's Papua province on Monday hampered rescuers' efforts to reach a passenger plane that crashed with 54 aboard, the latest in a string of aviation disasters in the sprawling Southeast Asian archipelago. Rescuers have yet to detect the aircraft's black boxes and news of survivors depends on a ground team now trekking slowly towards the mountainous area, the rescue official overseeing the search said. Rescue teams arriving at the site will have to build a helipad to fly in help, Guru told a news conference in the Indonesian capital, adding that 266 people were involved in the operation, while 11 aircraft scoured the thickly forested area.
