Warner Bros. Obtains Injunction Against 16 Torrent Sites

Warner Bros. has obtained a blocking injunction against 16 Russia-based torrent sites, including RuTor.org, one of the country's largest. The injunction, which aims to limit the unauthorized distribution of the movie Entourage, is the first of its kind to be granted directly to a U.S. movie company by a Russian court.

ZeniMax Lawsuit Against Oculus Moves Forward
A District Court judge has dismissed motions filed by Facebook and Oculus VR seeking to have the lawsuit filed by ZeniMax Media thrown out.
The ruling late last month by Jorge A. Solis, a judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas in Dallas, denied a request to dismiss the lawsuit by two of the defendants in the case, Oculus and Palmer Luckey, the company's co-founder who came up with the idea for the Oculus virtual-reality headset. On Monday, the judge also ruled against a similar request by a third defendant in the case, Facebook, which acquired Oculus for $2 billion last year.

This $2,500 drone that hacks computers has just given the anti-drone crowd another reason to stock up on 00 buckshot.
A company called Aerial Assault has turned a quadcopter into a flying hacker that scans the world below for insecure devices and vulnerable Wifi ports. Its makers say they built the tool for penetration testing to help "good guys" diagnose their own weaknesses but they concede that with a bit of modification, it could be used to exploit those vulnerabilities and install malware from the air.

Verizon Tests Superfast 10 Gigabit Internet Service
Verizon has successfully completed a test of a new technology on its industry-leading, fiber-to-the-premises network, that in the future could easily provide businesses and consumers with upload and download Internet speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps), and the potential to increase this speed even further. The technology will have the system capacity to grow to 40-80 Gbps as the market demands, according to Lee Hicks, vice president of network technology for Verizon. This is possible by simply adding new colors of light onto the existing fiber, each augmenting the capacity by up to 10 Gbps.

The plaintiff, who seeks to represent a larger class of consumers affected by the same issue, alleges that Uber's practice of contacting potential customers via text messages and phone calls violates the Telephone Consumer Protection Act because the company does not ensure the accuracy of the telephone numbers it's provided, leading consumers to routinely receive unsolicited messages from the ride-sharing service.

Microsoft Promises To Fix Windows 10 Store Apps Glitch
For those of you having issues with Windows 10 apps, Microsoft says that it will have the issue resolved in 48 hours.
Though Microsoft has not yet publicly revealed the source of the problem, the software giant has now promised a fix. In a brief statement sent to blog site Windows Central early Tuesday, a Microsoft spokesperson said that "this issue will be resolved within the next 48 hours via Windows Update." Assuming that timeframe holds, affected users should expect a fix sometime Tuesday or by end of day Wednesday.

AMD R&D Expenditure Down 40%
AMD's chief technology officer, Mark Papermaster, was in the hot seat at the Global Tech Leadership Forum. Questions about Moore's Law, competing with Intel and the sharp drop in R&D spending all seem to have investors a bit concerned.
McConnell asked Papermaster about the sharp drop-off in R&D levels at AMD, stating "when I talk to investors about AMD, there's some concern I mean, we've seen a decline by close to 40% versus levels we were at in the beginning of the decade."
