The Boston Globe reported that Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said she would charge Tsarnaev with murdering MIT police officer Sean Collier and for other crimes in the aftermath of the marathon attacks. Ryan said a guilty verdict in Massachusetts could keep Tsarnaev in prison if he successfully appeals his federal convictions.

NAACP votes to end boycott of South Carolina over Confederate flag
The Confederate battle flag is permanently removed from the South Carolina statehouse grounds during a ceremony in ColumbiaThe resolution was approved during the NAACP's annual convention in Philadelphia. South Carolina removed the flag on Friday to chants of "USA, USA!," after three weeks of emotional debate over the banner, a symbol of slavery and racism to many, but of Southern heritage and pride to others. The Confederate flag was raised atop the South Carolina State House dome in 1961 as part of centennial commemorations of the American Civil War.

Los Angeles sheriff relieves jail employees of duty over inmate neglect complaint
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has relieved 10 jail employees of duty and reassigned others over an inmate's complaint that he was denied food for more than a day, the sheriff said in a statement on Saturday. The officers relieved of duty include two lieutenants and one sergeant, according to the sheriff's department. The action by Sheriff Jim McDonnell, who was elected to the position last year, follows several scandals at the department's jails that have drawn increased scrutiny of detention facilities that collectively rank as the nation's largest jail system, with about 20,000 inmates.

Greece faces D-Day after 'difficult' bailout talks halted

Saturday's meeting of the Eurogroup, comprising finance ministers from the 19-nation single currency area, was supposed to pave the way for all 28 European Union leaders to sign a final agreement at an emergency summit the following day, billed as the last chance to keep Greece in the euro. Eurogroup chief Jeroen Dijsselbloem said the "issue of credibility and trust was discussed" by ministers, who are wary of the Greek government's commitment to enacting the new reforms which closely resemble those rejected by voters in a surprise referendum.
