Don't hold your breath for Sony PlayStation 4 backward compatibility
Microsoft recently announced that backward compatibility will allow Xbox One owners to play Xbox 360 game titles, and it was a unique offering. For Sony PlayStation 4 gamers, don't expect the same feature anytime soon so you can play your old PlayStation 3 games.

hold-breath-sony-playstation-4-backward-compatibility
"The backward compatibility news was interesting," said Shuhei Yoshida, head of worldwide studios at Sony Computers Entertainment, in a statement to Polygon. "The technology involved must be very challenging. I'm interested in seeing the list of titles."

Instead, paying PS4 gamers can use PlayStation Now to play older game titles - but native backward compatibility shouldn't be expected. However, Sony will continue developing and supporting new features for the PS4, as more gamers look to upgrade their consoles.

Xbox One backward compatibility can now be tested by Xbox Preview members, and a public is scheduled before the end of the year.

DayZ creator Dean Hall working on VR title for Valve SteamVR platform
It looks like DayZ creator Dean Hall is working on a new virtual reality video game that'll be supported by SteamVR, Eurogamer has learned. RocketWerkz is investing more time in VR, but not for the Ion space simulation game which the studio recently announced.

dayz-creator-dean-hall-working-vr-title-valve-steamvr-platform
When speaking with Eurogamer, Hall mentioned one game that we now know is a VR title, though additional details remain unknown. It's unknown when gamers can expect to hear more about this mysterious project that Hall is currently working on for SteamVR.

"[Valve's] Chet Faliszek was like a huge mentor to me. He contacted me very early on in DayZ's development and he's been all through everything - he's been a huge mentor. And I actually got a chance to see him speak, and I spoke myself, at Slush Play [a gaming and VR conference] in Iceland. And, to be honest, that was the final convincing for me. So I really liked what he had to say."

Busted! FCC hits AT&T with $100M fine for 'misleading' customers
US wireless carrier AT&T has been hit by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with a $100 million fine for misleading subscribers about so-called "unlimited" data plans. This is the largest proposed fine the FCC has issued, and AT&T will not surprisingly try to fight to have it reduced.

busted-fcc-hits-100m-fine-misleading-customers
Consumers used more than 3GB of 3G data or 5GB of 4G data during a 30-day billing cycle would have their speeds throttled. That may seem bad enough, but AT&T wouldn't inform subscribers about the data throttling, the FCC said.

"Unlimited means unlimited," said Travis LeBlanc, FCC enforcement bureau chief, when discussing the penalty. "As today's action demonstrates, the commission is committed to holding accountable those broadband providers who fail to be fully transparent about data limits."

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) wants to issue refunds to AT&T subscribers promised unlimited data, and that lawsuit is still active.

AT&T actually threw in the towel on unlimited data plans for subscribers back in 2009, with a small number of customers grandfathered into unlimited data. The company now only throttles data if its networks are "congested."

EA CEO: 'Mobile is already important,' with millions of downloads
E3 2015 - Much of the attention during E3 has been on PC and console games, but there is a growing presence of mobile game titles. Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson recently spoke about how critical mobile gaming is for the company, which has almost 250 different mobile titles available to gamers.

ea-ceo-mobile-already-important-millions-downloads
"Mobile is already important. We had more than 700 million downloads of our games last year. We have 160, 170 million monthly active users playing our games every month," Wilson said in a statement to GamesBeat. "There's going to be another 300 or 600 million devices or something launched this year alone. We went from 200 million players to two billion players in large part because of mobile devices. It's already super important to us. I'm proud of what we're doing.

Hardcore games such as Madden NFL being streamlined to Madden NFL Mobile indicate how EA wants to cater to Apple iOS and Google Android smartphone and tablet owners. Looking ahead, Wilson said that GMs are reporting the importance of mobile gaming directly to him - and he's listening to the feedback.

"Them reporting to me directly is me saying, 'It's important to us.' I want to make sure that we are investing time and money and resources at the appropriate level, given the magnitude of opportunity there."

Audio maker V-MODA is embracing innovation by spearheading a project for the world's first 3D printed personalized wearable technology. As for precious metals, the following choices are available: sterling silver, solid 14k gold, 14k rose gold, 14k white gold, or platinum.

"3D printing has captured the imaginations of people, but this is the first application that can be worn every day on an award-winning product," said Val Kolton, CEO of V-MODA. Oculus VR explains gaming experience we can expect with VR
When it comes to virtual reality growing into a mainstream technology, it looks like video games will be one of the most important driving forces. Jason Rubin, head of studios at Oculus VR, is tasked with helping predict that types of apps, games, and other software VR adopters will use - and he's banking heavily on video games.

oculus-vr-explains-gaming-experience-expect
Oculus VR will invest at least $10 million in independent game development, and has studios such as Insomniac Games and Ready at Dawn onboard to help create VR-themed titles.

"My guess is, what's going to happen is we'll start with a lot of experiences that developers know how to make," said Rubin while speaking with GamesBeat. "They're going to be great experiences. But as time passes, and also with new input devices, we're going to branch out into new experiences. There are going to be old genres that don't translate, old genres that translate with a little work, old genres that are awesome and made even better, and then a ton of new genres that are called for in VR."

There are plenty of different opportunities ahead, as Oculus VR still isn't sure what the final control mechanism for its VR platform will be. Furthermore, game development will involve a lot of creativity and exploration, as VR could help drive a new adoption of different types of games in the future.

"I'd imagine we'll see an explosion of different types of games. After a bit more experimenting, people will start hiting with totally new things that we don't even know how to define for a few years."

Are consumers drinking the Kool-Aid related to mobile payments?
Consumers have a growing number of ways to pay at checkout that don't include using cash, debit or credit cards - but trying to actually get people to switch to mobile payments is proving difficult. It's possible to use a smartphone or smartwatch wearable to make payments, with the likes of Apple Pay, Android Pay, and other options.

consumers-drinking-kool-aid-related-mobile-payments
Apple has recently announced new features of its Apple Pay service, while Google has big ambitions for Android Pay, designed to be the successor to Google Wallet. Earlier in the year, Samsung purchased LoopPay, and is expected to take a more aggressive approach to the mobile payment sector.

"I've been paying for a while with my phone," said Larry Page, CEO of Google, while speaking during a shareholder meeting. "First time you pay with a phone, and you don't have to pull out your card, mess with entering codes and signing things and so on, it's a pretty great experience."

If nothing else, the appeal of mobile payments has made some banks nervous, and they want to make sure they are ready to support increasingly mobile customers.

Researchers create soft robot tentacles able to safely pick up an ant
Researchers have created tiny soft robotic tentacles able to successfully pick up an ant without harming or killing it. The tentacle can also pick up fish eggs, a strong indication the technology may be used in microscopic surgeries that require extreme precision.

researchers-create-soft-robot-tentacles-safely-pick-up-ant
The Iowa State University researchers chose a manner that each microscopic tube is coil and move in a spiraling manner, similar to an octopus arm. Measuring up to 8 millimeters in length, each tube has a silicone rubber ring located at the base that give the tubes strength.

"The gentle spiraling and scooping motion of our micro-tentacle will definitely help," said Jaeyoun Kim, electrical engineer at Iowa State University, said in a statement to Live Science. It's impressive research that could have a major impact on surgeries - hopefully preventing tissue damage to the medical patient.

Micro-robotics and soft-robotics are receiving a lot of attention in the robotics field right now, so it's great to see projects that combine the best of both worlds.

Capcom says Street Fighter 5 won't come to XBOX
In an interview with GameSpot, a Capcom employee stated that Street Fighter V will not be released on Xbox - even though previous titles have been.

capcom-street-fighter-5-xbox
Although fans were speculating an Xbox release, the representative stated: "the reality is that this is a real partnership [with Sony]. We are console exclusive for this franchise for this numbered run." Claiming its new buddy Sony is certainly a helpful one, the source from Capcom continued "We're not talking about how we're handling post-launch content, but I can say the relationship with Sony does open doors for things we haven't been able to do in the past."

Phil Spencer, Xbox Games executive, told GameSpot that these things sometimes happen, adding that "I'd love it if Xbox fans could play all the games, but business just makes some deals happen. It's all part of competition."

enermax-revolution-xt-630w-80-plus-gold-power-supply-review
Enermax is a company that is well known for their excellent and uncompromising quality. They constantly seek to drive innovation, striving to meet the demanding needs of the market and their customers. The power supplies are renowned as some of the best in the industry around the globe. The past examples that we've reviewed have shown this to be exactly the case and today we expect no different from the unit that is on the bench.

That unit is the Enermax Revolution X't 630W power supply. It sits more towards their entry level enthusiast segment and aims to provide those who seek something more than a base, no frills model without adding too much to the cost. It features all the protections we've come to expect from Enermax packed into a semi-modular chassis and enough power to handle a single high-end GPU or a pair of mid-range ones.

Specifications, Availability and Pricing

enermax-revolution-xt-630w-80-plus-gold-power-supply-review
The Enermax Revolution X't 630W features a single 12V rail rated for 51A or 612W of power.

enermax-revolution-xt-630w-80-plus-gold-power-supply-review
As I said before, this unit is meant to provide the same protection that you would find in the higher-end offerings from Enermax. The Revolution X't 630W features SCP, OVP, OCP, OPP, and OTP. The power supply is semi-modular and all of the cables both native and modular are of the flat ribbon type. The unit is rated for 80 PLUS Gold efficiency. The one thing that this unit does not feature is being rated for 100% continuous output at 50C. It is, however, rated for it at 40C.

The Enermax Revolution X't 630W is priced right in the middle of the road for models of similar wattage and efficiency. It currently retails for $99.99 and can be found on sale for less and either way that makes for a heck of a good deal for someone in need of a mid-wattage power supply. Enermax backs the Revolution X't with a five-year warranty.

LG Electronics and Nokia Technologies agree on smartphone patent license
LG Electronics has agreed to take a royalty-bearing smartphone patent license from Nokia Technologies. The Korean company is the latest of more than 60 licensees for Nokia's 2G, 3G and 4G mobile communication technologies and the first major smartphone manufacturer to join the licensing program since Nokia divested its Devices & Services business to Microsoft in 2014.

"We are pleased to welcome LG Electronics to our licensing program," said Ramzi Haidamus, President of Nokia Technologies. "We've worked constructively with LG Electronics and agreed a mutually beneficial approach, including the use of independent arbitration to resolve any differences. The detailed royalty payment obligations will be subject to commercial arbitration, expected to conclude within a 1-2 year timeframe. Other terms of the agreement remain confidential between the two companies.

KTC Brings TV Designs into The 3.0 Era with L91F Series
As essential home appliances, TV are experiencing increasing changes of late. An excellent TV product is not only powerful experience in appearance, but also has outstanding performance. Increasingly, consumers are requesting products that are no longer just defined by the mere performance requirements for a television, but rather, in today's competitive large-screen TV market, an excellent design is also become a must have feature when shopping.

Television sets have changed quite a bit from the CRT models to today's LCD TVs. In general, the appearance of modern TVs has gone through many changes represented by 3 stages. The first stage was a full plastic appearance where the entire television appeared in all plastic, such as heavy CRT TVs, projection TVs and earlier LCD TVs. This design was mainly due to age limiting technology, manufacturing abilities and the internal structure of a television, and of course for reducing costs.

ktc-brings-tv-designs-3-era-l91f-series
The second stage was the plastic and metal mixing stage, including post-metal plastic fronts with more after the former metal plastic design. This design first appeared in the LCD TV era, where as the CRT TV appearance represented the era of the heavy old style. Some manufacturers, in order to highlight their appearance of the product differentiation, began to put a surface metal frame design on the TV because of the fierce competition in the market.

ktc-brings-tv-designs-3-era-l91f-series
The third stage is the stage of an all-metal exterior. This has been a result mainly of the market requirements from people wanting something more elegant to show. Television is no longer just a pure entertainment device; it is returning to its original place as a center piece of the living room becoming a work of art in the home to be displayed in and of itself. Manufacturers are starting to focus on the art of the TV appearance and are striving to present something that can go with the overall harmony of the home. For such a result, an all-metal exterior with metal base design has emerged, such as KTC's L91F series TV.

ktc-brings-tv-designs-3-era-l91f-series
From a practicality standpoint, a TV appearance with an all-metal material is not only able to better reduce electromagnetic interference signals and help dissipate heat, but is also more stable in the long run. At the same time the metal shell will not burn in a fire, a good safety factor to consider. Also the metal base is more sturdy and strong as opposed to a plastic base one.

From an aesthetic point of view, a thinner and narrower metal frame can better blend with the TV screen, with the visual effect being closer to a borderless result. The ultra-narrow metal frame shell, as if a piece of art carved, exudes a calm yet strong atmosphere.

KTC is working hard to bring some of the most innovative and stylish televisions the world has yet to see. To find out more, visit the KTC website at: http://www.ktc.com.cn
