Samsung will patch its software to restore Windows Update settings
Owners of Samsung PCs who use the company's own software update utility will soon be able to breathe easier. After the revelation that Samsung's software deliberately disabled Windows Update for reasons we still can't quite fathom, the company told VentureBeat that it'll be patching its software to restore recommended Windows Update settings (which is to say, on and automatic) to affected machines.
Based on Samsung's statements to VB, the patch will arrive "within a few days" through the same SW Update utility. After the initial story broke, Samsung claimed that it was disabling Windows Update to "[provide] users with ...

ThinkPad loyalists will enjoy this retro Lenovo concept
Lenovo (née IBM) ThinkPads have a design history stretching back over 20 years. For ThinkPad purists who take issue with those recent changes, however, the company might have an answer. Lenovo design VP David Hill revealed a concept for a more retro ThinkPad on his blog yesterday, and it's pretty neat-looking:

Bethesda accepts fan's bottlecaps as payment for Fallout 4
A couple weeks ago, a Fallout 4 fan who goes by the Imgur handle GatorMacheteJr (not to be confused with Machete Sr.) sent all the bottle caps he'd been saving up along with a note to Bethesda, asking the company to accept them as payment for a Fallout 4 preorder. And, well, it seems that someone at Bethesda has a sense ...

New, smaller Flir One thermal camera works with Android devices
Thermal imaging company Flir's original One is a neat tool, but its bulky body only works with the iPhone 5 and 5S, and its 80-by-60-pixel thermal imaging sensor looks a little limited next to the 320-by-240-pixel units in some of the company's dedicated thermal cameras. A new, updated Flir One is available today, and it features a much smaller body along with a 160-by-120-pixel thermal sensor. A micro-USB version of the new One can be plugged into any Android device with such a port, too.
