Updated: Preinstalled SwiftKey app can own some Samsung phones
Mobile security company NowSecure has reported a vulnerability in the SwiftKey keyboard app preinstalled on some Samsung phones, which could allow an attacker to perform privileged remote code execution. That roughly translates to "anything goes," and NowSecure claims that over 600 million devices may be impacted.
The bug affects the Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, and S6 handset lines. Only US carrier versions are listed, but it's possible that versions around the world are similarly affected. ...

AMD's Fiji GPU rides in on four Radeon R9 Fury graphics cards
AMD has fired off a high-end Radeon salvo today in the form of four new graphics cards, all under the R9 Fury umbrella. OSVR updates its VR dev kit, announces Android support
The OSVR coalition has announced a new version of its VR hardware, the Hacker Dev Kit. Version 1.2 of the headset features support for infrared head position tracking over a 360-degree range, by way of what looks like an external IR camera and a new faceplate. The coalition is also releasing an Android distribution of its VR software to facilitate mobile VR development for the platform.

New Razer Mamba gets 16,000 DPI sensor, adjustable click force
Razer has announced an upgraded version of the Mamba gaming mouse, with a couple new features. One of the improvements is a nifty mechanism that allows users to adjust the actuation force of the main buttons. The Mamba also features a new 16,000 DPI laser sensor. Razer claims it can track movement as fine as 1 DPI, and its lift-off distance is a mere 0.1 mm. The scroll wheel now has left and right tilt buttons, as well.

Some Samsung SSDs may suffer from a buggy TRIM implementation
A new bug may be present in the firmware of some Samsung SSDs. An engineer from search provider Algolia has written up a blog post detailing his team's saga of troubleshooting data corruption in some of their servers. Ultimately, Algolia narrowed down the problem to an apparent bug in the TRIM implementation used in Samsung drives.

LastPass breach exposes hashed master passwords
Another day and another breach, this time of the password database LastPass. The service announced that its systems have been compromised on its official blog yesterday. The unknown attackers have made off with server per-user salts and authentication hashes. In plainer terms, the encrypted master passwords of an unknown number of LastPass users have been exposed, and the password databases secured with those master keys are potentially at risk.
