Intel to Acquire Altera for $16.7 Billion
Intel and Altera have been dancing around a deal for several months, and today the two companies finally settled on a price. Intel will pay $54 per share for Altera in an all cash deal valued at $16.7 billion. Altera has a large presence in the FPGA and ASIC markets and with the purchase Intel gains access to valuable data center and Internet of Things business opportunities. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich described the acquisition stating, "With this acquisition, we will harness the power of Moore's Law to make the next generation of solutions not just better, but able to do more. Whether to enable new growth in the network, large cloud data centers or IoT segments, our customers expect better performance at lower costs." FPGAs can be developed in far less time, days or weeks, compared to the processors developed by Intel which can take up to three years from start to finish. FPGAs can be re-programmed at any time making it easy to update with new firmware, opening up the potential for new avenues of business for Intel.

Fight to Free Earth in XCOM 2; Coming This November Exclusively on PC
The fight for humanity is on in XCOM 2, the PC-exclusive sequel to 2012's stellar XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Firaxis Games is once again at the helm of the sci-fi turn-based squad RPG, but things are far more dire than they were in the past game. Twenty years have passed, the aliens are now firmly in control of Earth and everything that comes with, and their government is known as Advent. XCOM has been forced to go underground to lead the resistance against Advent, and will make use of guerrilla tactucs to strike at the enemy. Unfortunately that enemy has a technological and numerical advantage, so your combat tactics are going to have to change. Stealth is now a much larger element in XCOM 2, where cover can conceal your forces and fallen bodies, both allied and enemy, can be looted. There are new enemies to face, like an Evolved Sectoid, Gorgon-like Vipers, and Advent soldiers. XCOM is not entirely without its resources, as the flying aircraft carrier called Avenger serves as a mobile base of operations.

Corsair Introduces the Hydro Series H110i GTX CPU Cooler and New HG10 Video Card Brackets

One of the many things Corsair knows how to do is cooling, with fans and CPU coolers featured in many different setups. It also knows GPU cooling by way of its CPU coolers, and today we get the best of both worlds. Corsair has announced its new Hydro Series H110i GTX CPU cooler, its most advanced and customizable cooler to date, as well as new HG10 cooling brackets for the TITAN X, GTX 980 Ti, GTX 980, and GTX 970 video cards. The H110i GTX has two 140mm fans on a 280mm radiator for some extreme cooling potential, plus quiet performance thanks to an improved pump design. Combine that with the improved coldplate and Corsair says the efficiency of the H110i GTX is second to none. The 140mm fans are the SP140L PWM models, which feature high-static pressure and customizable speeds. The built-in Corsair Link software lets users monitor the temperatures of both the CPU and coolant, adjust the fan speed, and change the RGB LED lighting all from the desktop.
The Hydro Series HG10 N980 and N970 cooling brackets can fit onto reference model NVIDIA GeForce TITAN X, GTX 980 Ti, GTX 980, GTX 970, and GTX 760 video cards. A Corsair Hydro Series CPU cooler of your choice can be fitted onto the bracket to help drop GPU temperatures and increase overclocking headroom. Corsair states GPU temps can drop by as much as 45 °C while clock speeds can increase up to 25%. The HG10's blower style fan can keep the VRM and VRAM cool, so pushing things as far as they can should not be an issue. Attach one of these babies to the video card of choice and you're one step closer to rocking it in the Bulldog.
The Corsair Hydro Series H110i GTX, HG10 N980, and HG10 N970 will be available starting in July. The H110i GTX is priced at $139.99, features a five-year warranty, and supports the Intel LGA 115x, 1366, and 2011 sockets, plus AMD AM2, AM3, FM1, and FM3 sockets. The HG10 N980 and N970 comes in at $39.99 and has a two-year warranty.

ZOTAC Unveils Its GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lineup

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti is here at long last, which means all of the green team AIB partners can release reference and non-reference models at will. First up is ZOTAC, which has a full suite of 980 Tis coming your way. There is, of course, the GeForce GTX 980 Ti reference model from ZOTAC, with its blower-style cooler and 1000MHz stock clock and 1076MHz Boost clock. Then we get to the non-reference stuff, starting with the GTX 980 Ti AMP! This card packs an IceStorm cooler with three 90mm fans and Carbon ExoArmor to help improve thermal durability. The stock clock on it has been increased to 1051MHz, while the Boost clock is now at 1140MHz. Moving on up is the GTX 980 Ti AMP! Extreme, which has an IceStorm cooler with EKO fans and Carbon ExoArmor with LED lighting. Add in the POWER BOOST feature to help stablize performance, and a 1253MHz core clock and 1355MHz Boost clock, and you have one high-powered card.
But then there's the GTX 980 Ti ArcticStorm model that, much like the TITAN X variant, has an ArcticStorm Hybrid cooling system. This combination air/water cooler features an all copper waterblock, Carbon ExoArmor, and three 90mm fans to keep everything cooler for longer. The core clock is only at 1025MHz and Boost clock at 1114MHz, but that hybrid cooler should mean for much higher performance with just a little push. There's also a GTX 980 Ti AMP! Omega model, and while it packs the IceStorm cooler with EKO fans, Carbon ExoArmor, and POWER BOOST, the clock speeds are not known.
The ZOTAC GeForce GTX 980 Ti models can be viewed at Computex this week if you happen to be in the Taipei, Taiwan, area. The GTX 980 Ti cards are available to purchase now, although prices for all but the reference are unknown. That one starts at $649.99, just like all other GTX 980 Ti reference models.
